12 Miles Below VII: Path of the Mitespeaker

By Mark Arrows

The seventh book of 12 Miles Below opens with Keith Winterscar injured and alone after escaping a machine hunter, stranded in territory contaminated by a sentient fungal infestation. As he treks toward the Odin, a hidden human faction with advanced technology, Keith makes contact with the infestation and learns more about its motives and limits. Meanwhile a hostile machine attempts to seize control of Keith's armor remotely, triggering a virus his ally To'Wrathh had secretly planted as a defense, and she breaks away from her allies to search for him directly. When Keith reaches the Odin's fortified outpost, he must fight through their automated defenses and then negotiate for aid, using his knowledge of the infestation as leverage while a captured companion is held hostage elsewhere.
