61 Hours

61 Hours, the fourteenth Jack Reacher novel, opens as Reacher, traveling as a paid passenger on a seniors' tour bus, is stranded when the bus crashes on an icy South Dakota highway during a worsening blizzard. Drawing on his military police training, he keeps the elderly passengers safe through a dangerously cold night until local police can arrange rescue and transport to the small town of Bolton. Separately, a coerced chain of communication has set a sixty-one-hour countdown running on a set of criminal proposals passed from an imprisoned client through an intermediary. Once in Bolton, Reacher finds himself under suspicion from a wary deputy police chief distracted by an unexplained local crisis, leaving him isolated in an unfamiliar town whose troubles remain unclear.
