The narrator, an immortal High Fae and the High Lady of the Night Court, and Rhysand's mate. As the book opens she is back at the Spring Court, playing the part of Tamlin's recovered bride while secretly working as a spy and saboteur, feeding intelligence to the Night Court and quietly turning Tamlin's people against him as war with Hybern nears.

The High Lord of the Night Court, Feyre's mate and her equal as High Lord and Lady. Powerful, cunning, and devoted to his people and his inner circle, he leads the effort to unite Prythian against the King of Hybern.
Tamlin (Antagonist)

The High Lord of the Spring Court, once Feyre's rescuer and betrothed, who allied with Hybern in a desperate bid to reclaim her. Believing Feyre has returned to him, he does not know she is now his enemy, working to unravel his court from within.
Lucien (Supporting)

A red-haired Spring Court faerie with a mechanical golden eye, Tamlin's friend and emissary. Torn between old loyalties and his conscience, he is bound by the revelation that Feyre's newly made sister Elain is his mate.

Feyre's proud, sharp-tongued eldest sister, forced into the Cauldron and remade as a High Fae against her will. Furious at the transformation and at the faerie world, she carries something powerful and unsettling taken from the Cauldron itself.

A winged Illyrian warrior who commands the Night Court's armies, brash, battle-hardened, and quick to laughter. Devoted to Rhysand's inner circle, he prepares the Illyrian legions for the coming war and is drawn to Feyre's sister Nesta.

A quiet, shadowed Illyrian warrior and the Night Court's spymaster, winged and marked by a painful past. Reserved and intensely loyal, he gathers intelligence for Rhysand and grows protective of Elain.

Rhysand's second in command, an ancient and dangerous being wearing the small body of a High Fae woman with silver eyes. Older than the courts, she alone can wield the power needed to face the Cauldron directly.
The King of Hybern (Antagonist)

The ancient, ruthless ruler of Hybern who wields the Cauldron and means to tear down the wall, conquer the human lands, and crush the faerie courts. His invasion is the war the whole book turns on.
