A Study In Scarlet A Sherlock Holmes Mystery - Unabridged

By Arthur Conan Doyle

Dr John Watson comes home from the war in Afghanistan wounded, weakened by fever and living beyond his means in London, and goes looking for cheaper rooms. An old acquaintance introduces him to a possible fellow lodger he finds at work in a hospital laboratory: Sherlock Holmes, who greets him by remarking that he has been in Afghanistan. The two take rooms together at 221B Baker Street, and Watson spends the first weeks puzzling over his companion's strange visitors, his lopsided learning and his claim to read a stranger's history at a glance, until Holmes explains that he earns his living as a consulting detective. Then a letter from Tobias Gregson of Scotland Yard calls him to an empty house off the Brixton Road, where a well-dressed man lies dead with no wound on him and a single word has been written in blood on the wall. Arthur Conan Doyle's novel is the first book of the Sherlock Holmes series.
