Wu Ying, Tou He, and Li Liu Tsong are gravely injured, but one elder completes the breakthrough in time to save Wu Ying and help kill the beast. The survivors return to Verdant Green Waters. Still below Energy Storage, Wu Ying ends at Body Cleansing eleven with a partial understanding of his Tao: strength matters because it preserves the ability to choose when disaster strikes.

Previously: Long Wu Ying entered Verdant Green Waters and advanced from the outer sect into the inner sect. His background and limited resources left him at odds with privileged cultivators, especially Yin Xue, while also teaching him the value of allies. Tou He became a trusted friend, and Li Liu Tsong offered guidance connected to herbs and sect medicine. Elder Cheng sponsored Wu Ying's development. Wu Ying also retained obligations to his parents and home village. His cultivation remained grounded in the Yellow Emperor's Cultivation Manual and his family's sword tradition. At the opening of this volume, he has secured inner-sect status but has not yet established the occupation, resources, or advancement needed to make that position sustainable.

Fairy Yang Fa Yuan offers guidance while Elder Cheng is away. He also accepts paid weekly sparring with an elder whose wrestling repeatedly overwhelms him. Through winter, Wu Ying combines these commitments with cultivation and training beside Tou He. After integrating his kicking style, he consults Elder Kuo and chooses exercises aimed at power, flexibility, and durable bones. The pair then take a village assignment against hopping vampires. The infestation is larger than reported, and their first night hunt ends in an ambush, but they learn how rice can immobilize the creatures. By daylight they clear the cemetery using rice, mirrors, sunlight, and close combat. Wu Ying notices unusual winter flowers among the graves and carefully returns several living plants to Verdant Green Waters. The nightblossoms bring substantial payment, but their value also attracts a garden elder's attention. She assigns Wu Ying to her gardens, blocks him from other assignments, and places him under a former farmer who teaches him the care of dual-souled plants. The imposed work limits Wu Ying's freedom, yet its familiar rhythms and connection to his farming experience offer a promising new direction.

Over the following months, Wu Ying, Tou He, and the female martial specialist become an effective younger mission team. Wu Ying's cultivation stalls, but his body, bones, and martial integration improve. He completes Li Liu Tsong's introductory instruction, continues pill work and harvesting, and gives up blacksmithing for lack of time. Guidance from his father also helps him produce a short projected sword cut, a powerful but expensive step toward Dragon's Breath.

A senior gardener presses Wu Ying into a northern expedition seeking the final ingredient for a Core-stage bottleneck pill. Fairy Yang Fa Yuan explains that sponsorship and alliance create reciprocal duties, so Wu Ying accepts despite being below the usual cultivation requirement. Tou He volunteers to accompany him, Li Liu Tsong attends as an alchemical assistant, and Wu Ying acquires protective gear including a jade bracer able to release metal sword-qi. The expedition enters dangerous spirit lands, harvesting as it travels. A stalking beast kills one guard, and later battles with organized spirit beings cause further death and injury. The party escapes across a living earth bridge while poisonous cauldron smoke checks pursuit. Near the destination, a winged lion-like spirit beast accepts payment for passage, warns that the mountain is wrong, and finds something familiar in Wu Ying's full name without explaining why. At base camp, Li Liu Tsong challenges Wu Ying's broad resentment of nobles. Accepting his unfairness brings a brief enlightenment, raises him to Body Cleansing eleven, and leaves him intending to apologize to Yin Xue.

The expedition finds its scouts trapped behind a draining defensive formation by a peak Core demonic beast that has already killed several people. The rare flower is strategically vital because a rival sect has three pinnacle Core elders, so the survivors hold out until it blooms. Wu Ying helps maintain the formation, improves his aura suppression, and assists the expedition leader with the delicate harvest. The pill-refining elder produces five saint-level breakthrough pills. Two elders take pills immediately, and their cultivation draws so much ambient qi that the outer formation must be abandoned. The exhausted party makes a final stand. Tou He burns life force, Li Liu Tsong loses the use of a badly mangled arm, and Wu Ying's aura-masked sword attacks worsen the beast's wound but leave his sword broken and his lower legs torn. As the beast moves to kill him, one elder completes the breakthrough and intervenes. The advanced elder, expedition leader, and pill-refining elder destroy the beast. Wu Ying, Tou He, Li Liu Tsong, and the female martial specialist survive and return to Verdant Green Waters for treatment and rewards. Wu Ying remains at Body Cleansing eleven, now partly understanding that he seeks strength to preserve meaningful choices in a crisis.

The newly advanced elder saves Long Wu Ying from the demonic beast's killing leap, then joins the expedition leader and injured pill-refining elder in destroying it. Wu Ying, Tou He, Li Liu Tsong, and the female martial specialist all survive. Wu Ying returns with badly torn legs and a broken sword, Li Liu Tsong's left arm is mangled, and Tou He faces serious spinal and hip injuries that may have lasting effects but can be treated at the sect. The party reaches Verdant Green Waters about a week and a half later, and the wounded enter the physician's hall. Three of the five saint-level breakthrough pills remain for later use at the sect. The winged spirit beast's recognition of Wu Ying and its warning about the mountain remain unexplained. Wu Ying is still at Body Cleansing eleven, but he now understands part of his Tao: he wants enough strength to retain meaningful choices during a crisis. He and his surviving mission partner claim their rewards, with their proposed dinner still pending.
