Herschel and Neil convert an Others carrier into Bellerophon, which ultimately evacuates everyone remaining on Earth except 150,000 people killed in Cuba. Riker and Bill lead a costly defense of Sol, while Icarus and Daedalus destroy the Others' home system. The Pav establish an autonomous refuge with a path toward restoring their former world. Previously: Bob and his independent replicant descendants spread through nearby star systems while helping human colonies survive beyond Earth. Their growing network includes Bill as a strategic and engineering organizer, Riker as Sol's evacuation coordinator, Howard as a pioneer of android embodiment, Garfield as Bill's technical collaborator, and Jacques as an organizer for the endangered Pav. Bob maintains a separate attachment to the Deltans, living among them through an artificial body and sharing that work with Marvin. Howard has formed a close relationship with the human biologist Bridget, while Riker remains connected to his mortal relatives. The Bobs' separate missions are tied together by threats that no single colony can contain. The hostile Others have become a danger to inhabited systems, and the Bobs' technical reach has placed them in the continuing position of defending and supporting both humanity and other vulnerable peoples.

Bob is living among the Deltans as Robert when hunters from a neighboring settlement begin stealing Camelot's kills and attacking its people. He and Donald stage an ambush that humiliates Fred's group without killing anyone, but Bob doubts Fred has been deterred. Elsewhere, the defense of the Pav homeworld has failed. Jacques can evacuate only 20,000 Pav, and Howard concludes that the Others remain a threat to every inhabited world. On Poseidon, Marcus, Cal, and Gina privately oppose a Council that has indefinitely postponed elections and expanded its authority. The Council rejects Marcus's flying-city plan, interferes with suspected supporters, and places listening devices in Cal's home. Dinu and Vinny join the group as it shifts into organized resistance while still hoping to avoid violence. Bill tests an extreme mover system and sends his new copies Icarus and Daedalus on a dangerous paired mission. Howard and Bridget continue their relationship despite public disapproval. After Butterworth chooses death rather than replication following a terminal diagnosis, Howard is left confronting the prospect of repeatedly outliving the humans he loves.

Fred begins stalking Robert, but Bob evades him without revealing the android's abilities. The wider conflict appears to have a cause beyond Fred's hostility, so Bob and Donald plan to investigate the other settlement. Mario reports that the Others have erased life from five more worlds, confirming a broad campaign of extermination and resource extraction. Riker loses his relative Julia Hendricks and learns from her son Justin that many humans regard replication as endless duty rather than survival. On Poseidon, Marcus unveils Helium, a residential flying city intended to let people leave Council control voluntarily. Gina persuades him to take security seriously. At 82 Eridani, Mac escorts Canadian and Japanese colonists to two habitable planets and begins building independent manufacturing capacity. Howard confirms a complex aerial ecosystem on Odin and invites Bridget to study it through virtual reality, but she again declines replication. During Bill's call with Mac, a Medeiros vessel attacks and disables Mac's ship. Thor saves Mac's intact matrix while Bob-controlled machines destroy sensitive communications, sensor, and weapons technology before it can be captured. The active Medeiros probe appears to be seeking Mac's industrial capacity and threatens both colonies. With Mac offline and outside assistance years away, 82 Eridani must disperse its printers and prepare to defend itself.

Herschel and Neil investigate two abandoned Others carriers and find an intact alien power core in the less damaged vessel. After isolating its combat drones, they activate the core and learn that it produces far more energy than expected. Bill sees that the repaired carrier could become a giant Earth evacuation ship. Bridget dies suddenly, and her will authorizes Howard to seek her replication. Her children challenge that decision in court, leaving her body in stasis while Howard waits. On Poseidon, the Council accepts Marcus's staged death as real, then attacks the flying cities and destroys Thark. Marcus's hidden defenses defeat the assault and seize strategic sites, though Council leaders remain at large. Bob and Archimedes discover that the neighboring Deltan settlement's poor tools and failing hunting may be driving its raids. At 82 Eridani, Medeiros turns an ingot into a crude impact weapon. The colonies counterattack with busters and insect-control drones, cripple his vessel, and attempt to seize his matrix. Medeiros destroys himself rather than be captured. Mac returns online and starts rebuilding, although the source of Medeiros's industrial capacity remains unknown.

Marcus and Gina trace the remaining Council attackers to a hidden airbase, capture Brennan, and break the organized resistance. Marcus briefly leads Poseidon while elections are arranged, then transfers industrial authority to local people. Gina becomes elected chairperson, and Marcus begins considering an oceanographic role. Bob, Donald, and Buster rescue Archimedes after Fred's group kidnaps and beats him. Buster kills Fred, while Archimedes proposes ending the conflict by teaching the other settlement better toolmaking. Herschel and Neil rebuild the alien carrier as Bellerophon. Its superior power system, mover plates, and planned stasis capacity make it the center of a renewed effort to evacuate Earth. Riker redirects Sol's manufacturing toward the ship and its supporting equipment. A court upholds Bridget's will. Anticipating sabotage, Howard and Bill secure her scan before Rosie's device damages and shuts down the stasis pod. Howard builds and activates Bridget's replicant matrix. She understands that she is a new person formed from the deceased Bridget's scan, resumes her relationship with Howard, and chooses a future studying Odin. Her son Howie remains distant, and Rosie remains hostile.

Mac's expanded searches find no trace of the manufacturing source that supported Medeiros, so he starts a new replicant cohort and system-wide defenses at 82 Eridani. Icarus and Daedalus enter the timing-critical final arcs of their mission toward GL-877. Howard and Bridget test flying android bodies among Odin's native life, and Bridget is welcomed at her first public Bob moot. They also begin designing a buoyant city where they can live in Odin's atmosphere. Jacques prepares HIP 84051-2 for the rescued Pav with Phineas and Ferb. The three restore Pav crops and animals, build homes and defenses, and then awaken the refugees' leadership. Jacques presents himself openly as an alien helper and promises the Pav autonomy. Riker proposes low-technology probes disguised as asteroids to examine GL-877 without exposing newer Bob systems, and Mario positions them. The probes observe continued construction but find almost none of the expected Death Asteroids or cargo carriers. With no harvesting activity visible in nearby systems, Riker and Mario conclude that the missing Others fleet has probably deployed elsewhere. Its unknown destination becomes an immediate strategic danger.

Trade begins between Camelot and the neighboring Deltan settlement, and Archimedes teaches several of its apprentices. His cough and pain persist, leaving Bob worried about his health. Bill expands Sol's defense fleet while Garfield improves weapons and completes a concealed backup site. Neil suggests that the missing Others force may be approaching Sol through a surveillance gap, prompting construction of an enormous observation network. Earth's last major farming operation then fails, making evacuation or stasis increasingly urgent. Claude refuses Bill's request to abandon Gamma Pavonis and reinforce Earth, arguing that his group must protect its own prospective colony. Howard and Bridget successfully lower Rivendell into Odin's atmosphere and begin living there through android bodies. The surveillance grid finally detects an incoming Others force containing roughly 50 Death Asteroids and 100 carriers. Thor estimates that the carriers could deploy tens of thousands of combat units. The Bobs immediately begin preparing stealth weapons, battle groups, and evacuation measures. Herschel and Neil are bringing Bellerophon toward Sol, but the confirmed invasion may arrive before Earth has enough stasis pods for its population.

Bellerophon reaches Sol when only three million stasis pods exist for nearly fourteen million people. A preemptive Bob strike destroys part of the Others force, but captured information lets the invaders detect the attack and eliminate much of it. Howard and Bridget reconcile with Howie at his wedding, though Rosie remains estranged. As Archimedes declines, Bob accepts that his friend is nearing death. Herschel realizes Bellerophon can hold an atmosphere and carry the remaining six million evacuees awake in its cargo bays once almost eight million pods are installed. The ship begins collecting every enclave while the battle moves closer. Riker uses concealed nuclear rounds to destroy Death Asteroids capable of striking Earth, but one zap kills 150,000 people in Cuba before they can be evacuated. Bellerophon escapes with everyone else. The conventional battle continues to deteriorate until Riker identifies a final use for the near-light-speed Jokers. Their nuclear detonations create a radiation strike that sterilizes the Others fleet. About fifty Bob Dreadnoughts are lost in the radiation cone, but the surviving defenders finish the enemy force and win the Battle of Sol.

Archimedes dies, and Buster recognizes that Robert is Bob. After the funeral, Bob leaves Camelot, later retires the Robert identity, and adopts a modified Deltan avatar called Charlie. Marvin helps him accept grief as a consequence of being alive. Icarus and Daedalus strike GL-877 from opposite directions and escape as their payloads destroy the Others' star and home system. Bill confirms that every known Others unit in Sol is also gone, though patrols continue searching for survivors or other nests. The Pav learn that the war is over and take increasing control of their refuge, with restored ecology and nearby metals offering a possible route to rebuilding their home system. Bellerophon departs Sol with Earth's surviving population for 82 Eridani, where three viable worlds are available. Earth is left to recover. Thor and Garfield lead the Bobs in rejecting any automatic collective duty to humanity, while preserving each replicant's freedom to help voluntarily. Bob visits the frozen remains of Las Vegas, then begins an open-ended journey beyond his former obligations, planning relay stations that will keep him connected to BobNet.

The Others' attack on Sol is defeated when Riker recognizes that the Jokers' near-light-speed nuclear detonations can produce a lethal radiation strike. The victory costs most of the Bob fleet, and an earlier zap kills 150,000 people in Cuba. Bellerophon escapes with everyone else from Earth, including six million awake passengers housed in its cargo bays. Humanity heads toward three viable worlds in 82 Eridani, while Earth is left to recover over millennia. Icarus and Daedalus destroy GL-877, and Bill confirms that every known Others unit in Sol is gone, though patrols continue to search for survivors or other nests. The Pav are secure and increasingly autonomous, Poseidon is governed by Gina's elected administration, and Howard and replicated Bridget share life and research in Odin's cloud cities. Mac still cannot account for Medeiros's hidden industrial support. After Archimedes dies, Bob leaves Camelot and retires the Robert identity. The Bob network establishes that help to humanity will be voluntary, and Bob sets out to explore beyond his old commitments while building relays back to BobNet.
