Anne of the Island

By L. M. Montgomery

Anne Shirley is eighteen and leaving Green Gables at last for Redmond College in Kingsport, a mainland city of old streets and older churchyards, where she means to work for her degree. She goes with Gilbert Blythe and other Avonlea friends, while Diana Barry, newly engaged, stays behind, and Anne feels the life of the village beginning to shift without her. In Kingsport she has to face homesickness in a boarding house beside an old graveyard, the competition of college classes, new friends who are nothing like Avonlea girls and the attentions of more than one admirer. The third Anne book follows her years at Redmond, between college life in Kingsport and summers at home on the Island.
