In short (whole book)
Ilea Spears wakes in the wilderness of Elos, survives an ancient Azarinth awakening, and becomes a formidable fighter-healer. After reaching Riverwatch, she rescues Alice Forkspear, survives an elven assault, escapes through Calys Dungeon, and develops fire and ash powers alongside her healing class. A caravan disaster takes her to Salia before Alice sends her into a Taleen ruin on a fabricated mission. Ilea explores the ruin with Edwin Redleaf, Felicia Redleaf, and Aliana, then alone and under the alias Lilith with a Forkspear expedition. Taleen Praetorians devastate that expedition, though Ilea rescues several survivors. She returns to find Dawntree besieged and Salia destroyed, reunites with Roland and Lily, and helps mercenaries kill three pursuing elves. After evolving into an Azarinth First Hunter, she confirms Dale and Earl survived in Riverwatch, renews her friendship with Walter, and befriends the Dagger of Akelion. She ends the book entering the eastern mercenary order's fortress city in search of training and the missing Redleaf party.
Story so far - through chapter 5 (this book)
Ilea Spears falls asleep on Earth and wakes alone in a forest beneath two suns. A drake and a pack of wolves drive her into a ruined temple, where magical displacement traps her inside an Azarinth Chamber of Awakening. With no ordinary food or exit, she consumes dangerous blue moon grass, learns to control mana, and accepts the Azarinth Healer class. Months of training give her destructive strikes, powerful self-healing, enhanced physical abilities, and Blink. She eventually escapes the chamber, defeats one of its guardian constructs, and leaves with basic supplies and a stealth-oriented cloak. Traveling south, Ilea finds rogue adventurers attacking travelers. A Riverwatch guard squad asks her to serve as a healer during its ambush. She hides most of her combat abilities, freezes when confronted with human killing, but saves four wounded guards after the fighting. Dale, the guard who recruited her, pays her and brings her to Riverwatch. Ilea reaches the city with temporary shelter, salvaged equipment, and the guarded public identity of a traveling healer.
Story so far - through chapter 13 (this book)
Ilea learns the basic rules and geography of Elos from Maria at the Riverwatch library, then chooses an independent life based at the ruined temple. Over three months she hunts drakes, develops her skills through dangerous solo combat, and defeats a level-79 black-scaled drake. When four kidnappers confront her, she kills them and saves their captive, Alice Forkspear, using blue moon grass and Reconstruction. Alice is a Corinth healer and Dawntree noble who conceals Ilea's secrets and provides her with a base during Riverwatch's festival. Ilea joins the Adventurers Guild, consults the smith Earl about armor, and watches the city's tournament. The celebration ends when powerful elves bombard the arena and attack its defenders. Ilea escapes underground with Aaron, Eleonora, Oliver, Geronimo, Glenn, and other survivors. A white-haired elf pursues them into the mines, breaks through their defensive line, and kills several escapees. The group struggles to open a barricade while Glenn remains in immediate danger as the elf reaches him.
Story so far - through chapter 22 (this book)
Ilea, Aaron, Eleonora, Oliver, and Geronimo form a temporary party inside Calys Dungeon. They fight stalker hounds, search for another exit, and begin teaching Ilea fire magic. When they emerge, an elite mercenary unit reports that the elves have withdrawn. Riverwatch survives but is heavily damaged, and Ilea loses the possessions stored at Forkspear Mansion. Earl completes her Bracers of Ash, and Ilea volunteers as a healer before returning to the dungeon alone. Through study and repeated practice, Ilea gains Fire Mage as a second class and evolves it into Fire Enhancer. She defeats an Alpha Stalkerhound and discovers a passage into the underground refuge of the Vultures' Brotherhood. The necromancers initially keep her under guard while deciding whether she can leave. A summoning then releases a level-180 Mind Weaver that attacks minds, blinds victims, and paralyzes defenders. Ilea develops Mental Resistance, exploits its weakness to physical attacks, and kills it despite the level difference. She heals the summoner and stabilizes an injured necromancer. Walter, the Brotherhood's barkeeper and elder, grants her equal standing and recognizes her as a friend.
Story so far - through chapter 33 (this book)
Walter points Ilea toward the Foundation of Glass as a possible source of Azarinth knowledge. She returns to Riverwatch, retrieves materials from the temple, commissions drake armor from Earl, and improves her fighting through training with Dale. Alice then summons her to Dawntree. Ilea joins a caravan led by Arvin and begins a relationship with the guard Roland during the journey. Nazarks attack the caravan twice, and a basilisk destroys its defenses while the travelers are paralyzed. Ilea survives catastrophic wounds, rescues trapped people, and helps Arvin and the ice mage Mia delay the basilisk until the survivors can escape. Only 45 of the original 150 travelers remain, but they continue to Salia. Ilea stays with Roland's household, befriends the child Lily, and then travels alone to Dawntree. Alice asks Ilea to enter a newly discovered Taleen ruin, claiming that a cure inside might save her sister from a sleeping plague. She says previous expeditions never returned and that her family will send no one else. Ilea agrees to map the ruin and recover unusual devices or possible remedies, then prepares to enter the caves beneath the city.
Story so far - through chapter 43 (this book)
While Ilea enters the Taleen ruin, Alice privately admits to Jamie that the plague story is false and that the expedition is an unpaid scouting mission. Inside, Ilea maps an abandoned subterranean city, destroys powerful guardians, and meets Felicia Redleaf, Aliana, and Edwin Redleaf. Edwin argues that Alice used Ilea as a disposable explorer. Ilea joins his party in exchange for training and information, serving as healer and trap-clearer while the trio conceals its true objective. The alliance pushes through guardians, traps, and a level-302 centurion. Ilea reaches level 100 as an Azarinth Healer and gains chained Blink. After clearing a vast turret route, she evolves Fire Enhancer into Ash Wielder and hides the change from her companions. The group continues through lethal machinery and kills a deep-water creature, while Ilea develops further resistances under Felicia and Aliana's training. Edwin eventually finds an operating Taleen gate leading toward the trio's concealed objective. He, Felicia, and Aliana decide Ilea is not strong enough to accompany them and pass through without her. Felicia reveals that she noticed Ilea's new class and invites her to seek them when she is stronger. Left alone, Ilea begins clearing the gate's guardians.
Story so far - through chapter 54 (this book)
Ilea destroys the gate chamber's guardians but cannot defeat its centurion. Returning to Dawntree, she meets a new Forkspear expedition at the ruin entrance and uses the alias Lilith. Alice later admits that there was no plague and that she knowingly sent multiple parties into the ruin. Ilea ends their friendship, withholds her discoveries, but leaves Alice's attendant instructions that could help Alice obtain a battle-healer class. Back in the ruin, Ilea bypasses six centurions and loots a trapped treasury. She acquires a storage necklace, substantial gold, Taleen equipment, an unreadable book, and an unexplained Tungsten Key. She then learns sustained flight through Ashen Wings and defeats a level-305 centurion alone, proving that Reconstruction can regrow destroyed limbs and organs. The Forkspear expedition follows Ilea's cleared route and mistakes her armored form for a monster. She stops the attack, joins under the name Lilith, and works with its leaders. Lorcan Agor fights beside her and privately recognizes her as Ilea Spears without exposing her. Soon afterward, someone poisons her soup twice. Ilea survives and saves the cook who samples it, but the person responsible remains unidentified.
Story so far - through chapter 62 (this book)
Ilea and Lorcan Agor help the expedition clear the Taleen prison area and defeat centurions alongside Jasper Horim and Jeremy. Behind a wall, Ilea and Agor find an elf skeleton with rare armor and the hostile speaking Dagger of Akelion, and they conceal their discoveries from the Forkspears. Ilea also broadens her resistances by training against the expedition's mages. The final sealed route leads to two Taleen Praetorians whose shields negate most magic and skill effects. The machines massacre the expedition, killing many adventurers and badly injuring Agor. Ilea carries him out but is struck by a cursed scythe. Her wound resists healing, drains mana, and affects her mind as awakened machines hunt the scattered survivors. She endures long enough to find Jeremy, Rin, and others, equips them from her hidden stores, and helps fight through another centurion. Twenty-two survivors finally reach the rendezvous. Ilea restores Jasper's missing arm, and the group holds a farewell for the dead before returning to Dawntree. They find the city sealed behind magical barriers during a renewed elven assault. Concluding that Elos is now her home and that her strength carries obligations, Ilea leaves through the barrier and flies south to check on Salia and Riverwatch.
Story so far - through chapter 69 (this book)
Three elves pursue Ilea from Dawntree as she travels south. She escapes their first attack and reaches Salia, only to find the city devastated. Most of Roland's household is dead, while Roland and Lily are missing. An ice-wielding elf attacks, and Ilea joins a shadow-clad mercenary squad in killing it. She then discovers Roland, Lily, and about forty survivors in a sewer refuge and regenerates Roland's missing arm. Ilea helps the refugees recover supplies and prepare to travel east. A fire-wielding elf returns for her, but she and the mercenaries kill it. The victory takes both of her classes to level 200, allowing her to evolve from Azarinth Healer into Azarinth First Hunter. The evolution strengthens her healing, defenses, senses, and physical abilities. After she finds more survivors hidden in Salia's library, the final lightning-wielding elf attacks. Ilea and the mercenary squad kill it, ending the immediate pursuit. Roland and Lily leave east with the other refugees under a newly chosen leader. The mercenaries depart after offering Ilea a path to their order. Ilea flies to Riverwatch and learns that Dale survived the limited attacks there.
Story so far - through chapter 73 (this book)
In Riverwatch, Ilea visits Earl, sells Taleen weapons, and obtains a sheath for the Dagger of Akelion. When three robbers attack the smithy and one takes a child hostage, Ilea kills all three and saves Earl and the child. She accepts that the decision was necessary and resolves to trust her own judgment. Ilea then flies to the Vultures' Brotherhood. During the journey, the dagger describes uncertain memories of many owners and a long period of isolation. Ilea rejects ownership as the basis of their relationship, and the two agree to travel together by consent. Walter receives her as a friend, accepts elven corpses for study, and explains that the eastern mercenary order offers training, lodging, information, work, and a team to independent members who can pay its fee. The Brotherhood also connects Edwin Redleaf to a noble house in that region. The elven offensive, the Taleen Praetorians, Alice Forkspear's hostility, Ilea's unexplained arrival, and the Redleaf party's objective all remain unresolved. Ilea travels east with the Dagger of Akelion and enters the mercenary order's mountain fortress city, intending to seek training and information about Edwin Redleaf, Felicia Redleaf, and Aliana.
How does it end? (ending)
Ilea leaves besieged Dawntree to check on people farther south and finds Salia destroyed. She reunites with Roland and Lily, helps stabilize the survivors, and fights beside a shadow-clad mercenary squad to kill the three elves pursuing her. Roland and Lily depart east with the refugees. Ilea reaches level 200 in both classes and evolves from Azarinth Healer into Azarinth First Hunter, gaining stronger healing, defenses, senses, and tracking. Dale and Earl remain alive in Riverwatch, while Walter and the Vultures' Brotherhood remain friendly contacts. Jasper Horim, Lorcan Agor, Jeremy, and Rin survived the Taleen expedition, but the Praetorians still control the throne room. Alice Forkspear's betrayal and her family's search for Ilea remain unresolved, as do the poisons used during the expedition, the Taleen artifacts, and Ilea's arrival from Earth. Edwin Redleaf, Felicia Redleaf, and Aliana remain beyond a Taleen gate. Ilea accepts the Dagger of Akelion as a willing companion and travels east, reaching the mercenary order's fortress city to seek training, allies, and information about the Redleaf party.
