Ilea joins the Shadow's Hand and helps turn Team 34 into a capable unit alongside Claire, Eve, Kyrian, and Trian. Their missions lead to Cless, a child apparently displaced from Earth, before a Hand elder's rune plot unleashes demons across Ravenhall. Ilea and Trian are stranded in the Great Salt, ally with a Mind Weaver whom Ilea names Weavy, and use an ancient facility to return after Ilea rejects a possible route to Earth in favor of Elos. They find Ravenhall fallen and reunite surviving Hand forces under Dagon and Sulivhaan. Ilea, her allies, and Weavy break the demons' command structure and retake the city, though a winged demon escapes. Claire enters Ravenhall's new Hand-Imperial administration and cares for Cless. Trian turns toward his family, Eve is critically wounded after killing a poison druid linked to her investigation, and Ilea departs toward Riverwatch with Kyrian and Weavy while Adam Strand and the wider demon crisis remain unresolved.

Previously: Ilea arrived in Elos from a nonmagical world and became an Azarinth battle-healer. Her fighting style combines close combat, exceptional resilience, and healing, allowing her to survive threats that would overwhelm most adventurers. Her travels brought her into contact with Taleen ruins and with Aki, a sentient dagger whose origin remains unclear. She formed conditional alliances with Edwin Redleaf, Felicia Redleaf, and Aliana, and gained knowledge from Maria, a Riverwatch librarian. Ilea also rescued Alice Forkspear, leaving unresolved hostility connected to the Dawntree noble's family. Refugees including Roland and his daughter Lily survived the destruction of Salia and moved west. By the start of this volume, Ilea has concealed her origin from most people, accumulated rare Taleen-linked equipment, and reached the strength needed to seek more structured work and training in Ravenhall.

Ilea pays to enter the Shadow's Hand as an initiate, choosing an arrangement that leaves her free to refuse work and depart. In the guild settlement beneath Ravenhall, Aki detects an unexplained presence in her apartment, while Ilea encounters signs of hidden violence and mind magic. Her evaluation demonstrates unusual durability, rapid healing, teleportation, and strong close-range attacks, earning her a place as Team 34's tank-healer. The new team consists of Kyrian, a reserved metal-and-curse mage; Trian, a noble lightning mage with draining abilities; Eve, a secretive illusionist and singer; and Claire, a rune mage who begins imposing tactical discipline. Their early sparring reveals both their power and their lack of trust. Ilea defeats Kyrian and Trian, while Claire counters Eve's mental attack with prepared runes. The bouts also begin building Ilea's resistance to lightning, curses, and draining magic. The Hand sets a three-month training program intended to turn the five specialists into a functioning field team.

Team 34's training exposes persistent tension but also begins drawing Ilea, Eve, and Kyrian together outside formal sessions. Claire assumes the role of tactician, Kyrian's debt and guarded past remain unexplained, and Trian gradually agrees to cooperate despite clashes over his noble status. Ilea studies monsters, healing, archery, and close combat while learning how to detect indirect signs of Eve's concealment. Elsewhere, Edwin, Felicia, and Aliana free Maria from a hidden, mana-draining prison, prompting hunters connected to the Redleaf family to pursue them. Ilea trades damaged Taleen armor to Dagon, the Hand's librarian, in exchange for confidentiality and information about teleportation, other realms, and the Redleaf conflict. The records offer claims of realm travelers but no explanation for Ilea's arrival. Team 34 then prepares for an extended exercise in the Hand's artificial underground training environment, with all five members finally assembled for group work.

After months of difficult drills, Team 34 begins its first field mission at a silver mine where several adventuring parties vanished. Death spirits overwhelm Claire, Kyrian, and Trian with mental attacks, but Eve protects the group while Ilea heals their minds. Their combined abilities reveal and destroy the spirits. During the battle Ilea reaches level 200 in her ash class and evolves it into Inheritor of Eternal Ash, greatly strengthening her body and ash control. Deeper in the mine, the team defeats a level-262 Lost Wanderer while protecting one another from further spirits. Ilea heals a wounded six-winged fae and lets it leave. The group determines that exposed soul shard ore drew the deadly creatures, recovers the missing victims, and returns control of the mine to its settlement. Their success earns full payment and confirms that the five initiates can now operate as a genuine team.

Now full Shadow's Hand members, Team 34 completes a series of assignments. They uncover a village blood-magic operation, rescue a traumatized child, kill the ritualist, and expose local conspirators who traded victims for payment from unknown nobles. They then destroy a harpy colony and join an offshore expedition, where Ilea survives a severe poison trap and the group helps kill a level-334 Stone Guardian. Ilea uses the cover name Lilith and tells Eve that she came from a world without magic. Beyond the guardian, a golden barrier controlled by an unidentified mage severs Ilea's legs before she regenerates them. The mage ends the confrontation and asks the Hand to take charge of Cless, a young girl found in the ruin. Cless says she is from London and is searching for her doctor father, making her another apparent arrival from Earth. Claire assumes responsibility for her while concealing that connection. The team explores farther, but a collapse buries the deeper dungeon entrance.

Ilea establishes a concealed home near Ravenhall and grows closer to Kyrian. He reveals that he survived street life and exploited child labor, admits his limited literacy, and accepts Ilea's help learning to read. Ilea entrusts him with her Earth origin, though their brief intimacy leaves him hurt and confused when she does not want a committed relationship. Meanwhile, a covert Hand operative finishes a network of runes intended to undermine the guild. The plot erupts during the Hand tournament as demons pour into the training area and reach Viscera. Ilea fights through the incursion and reunites with Trian, but they cannot reach the rest of Team 34 before a vast portal opens. A colossal creature emerges, and the defending elder engages it. Ilea and Trian are swept through the rift into a dark ocean realm with no visible route back, while the fates of Claire, Eve, Kyrian, Cless, and Ravenhall remain unknown to them.

Stranded in the Great Salt, Ilea tells Trian about Earth and introduces him to Aki. The pair bargain with a sapient Mind Weaver that wants to escape its violent realm. Their wary alliance leads them to an ancient steel facility operated through unfamiliar runes and lightning. Ilea names the demon Weavy. Inside, they confront the Shadow's Hand elder responsible for the rifts, who claims the invasion was meant to test and strengthen the guild. He summons monsters, uses the facility's controls, and disappears, leaving the three allies amid competing demon forces. After surviving, they discover that the central device can display and target distant places. One view appears to offer Ilea a route to Earth, but she chooses the life and people she has in Elos. She focuses the device on her hidden home and has Trian activate it. Elsewhere, Kyrian keeps Cless alive near demon-held Ravenhall and finds the city still burning under Mind Weaver control.

Ilea, Trian, and Weavy return to her mountain home, where Kyrian and Cless have taken refuge. Ilea identifies the saboteur as Adam Strand and learns that Ravenhall has fallen while Claire and Eve are missing. Weavy joins the survivors as a provisional ally and helps Sulivhaan's squad clear demon groups around the city. The combined force retakes Morhill, attracting the attention of Imperial scouts. Eve, alive in Virilya, continues a separate covert investigation and survives a battle that yields new leads. Ilea travels to Virilya and finds Dagon organizing the surviving Shadow's Hand. After hearing Ilea's account of Adam, Dagon summons the guild to Ravenhall, and more than a hundred members answer. Dagon and Sulivhaan prepare the counterattack while scouts identify many Mind Weavers controlling the occupation. Ilea, Trian, Kyrian, and Weavy enter the sewer route beneath Ravenhall with Weavy's controlled demons, beginning the effort to break the city's defenses from within.

The Shadow's Hand attacks Ravenhall while Ilea and other infiltrators hunt the Mind Weavers directing its defenders. Each leader they kill destabilizes more demons, but a powerful winged demon nearly overwhelms Ilea and escapes south. A fresh rift releases two enormous creatures. One dies when the rift closes through it, while the other, Bane of the Deep, devastates the battlefield with sound. Ilea enters the creature, destroys its organs, and secures the level-823 kill. With the command structure broken, the Hand contains the remaining horde. Weavy proves his allegiance by destroying his own controlled spawn rather than leave them as a danger. Ilea reunites with Trian and Kyrian at a newly formed lake that sends demon spawn into the Hand's training area and will require permanent guards. After days of fighting through streets and underground passages, the Hand clears Ravenhall. The surviving defenders begin disposing of the dead and repairing the walls.

Dagon and Sulivhaan secure Imperial cooperation in Ravenhall's reconstruction and a stronger governing role for the Shadow's Hand. Ilea finds Claire and her unresponsive mother pursued by Dawntree hunters seeking information about Alice. Ilea identifies herself as Lilith and kills the hunters after learning they drove Claire from safety and attacked during her escape. Claire remains with the Hand, is hired into Ravenhall's new administration, and takes Cless as her assistant and ward. Trian gives Claire his drawings of the Great Salt runes, then prepares to check on his family as reports confirm demon attacks far beyond Ravenhall. Eve's investigation links the Golden Lily to Trian's family. She kills a poison druid in Virilya but leaves the battle critically wounded, bleeding, and without healing supplies, making her immediate survival uncertain. Weavy remains distrusted despite his service. Ilea departs toward Riverwatch with Kyrian and Weavy, while Adam Strand, the escaped winged demon, the spawn lake, the Golden Lily, and the mysteries of Earth travel remain unresolved.

The Shadow's Hand clears Ravenhall after Ilea kills Bane of the Deep and the defenders break the demons' Mind Weaver command, but the powerful winged demon escapes. Dagon and Sulivhaan negotiate cooperation with the Empire, giving the Hand a larger role in the city's reconstruction. Claire joins the new administration and takes responsibility for Cless. Trian plans to check on his family after learning that demon attacks have spread, while the Golden Lily remains tied to that family. Eve kills a poison druid during her separate investigation but leaves the fight critically wounded and without healing supplies, so her immediate safety is unresolved. Weavy proves his allegiance but is still feared by humans. Ilea leaves for Riverwatch with Kyrian and Weavy. Adam Strand remains missing, the one-way demon-spawn lake still requires containment, the winged demon remains at large, and the mysteries surrounding Aki, Taleen technology, Cless's father, and travel between Earth and Elos remain open.
