Brothers in Arms

By Lois McMaster Bujold

Continuing the Vorkosigan Saga, Miles Vorkosigan returns to Earth after a costly campaign, forced to juggle his secret identity as Dendarii Mercenary commander Admiral Naismith with his official duties as a Barrayaran officer at the London embassy under his new commanding officer, Captain Duv Galeni. With the fleet's finances nearly exhausted and a Cetagandan bounty on Naismith's head, Miles must talk down a group of his own drunken soldiers holding a shopkeeper hostage, then secure an emergency loan against his flagship to keep the Dendarii solvent. As his double life becomes harder to conceal from embassy security, Miles also begins a new relationship with his bodyguard, Elli Quinn, further complicating an already precarious situation.
