Felix Nevarre (Protagonist)

Felix enters the book trapped in a catastrophic Grandmaster tempering at Levantir. An Unbound ally whose uncontrolled manifestation is consuming the fortress around him, he must complete Astrum Ascendance while resisting the separate will awakening inside his power.

Hunger (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

Hunger is an inner companion who tells Felix her control is failing. She recognizes the presence awakening during his Grandmaster tempering as a Cardinal beast.

Vessilia Dayne (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Vessilia is Felix's partner and a trusted dragoon leader carried forward from earlier conflicts. Her bond with the dawn drake Yin makes them an experienced aerial team, and she remains one of Felix's closest allies as preparations begin for another dangerous campaign.

Atar V'as (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Atar is a fire mage, sigildry leader, and Alistair's partner. He is one of Felix's established allies.

Alistair (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Alistair is an established ally of Felix, a force mage and inscriptionist, and Atar's partner. He brings precise defensive magic and engineering knowledge to the group, supporting both its battlefield survival and its larger construction efforts.

Beef is an Earth-born Unbound, a necromancer, and a battlefield builder. He travels with Hallow, his independent undead companion.

Hallow is Beef's independent undead companion and the coordinating intelligence behind his Risen. She can speak through his armor, protect him in her Graven Aegis form, and offer a perspective distinct from the forces under their command.

Archie (Supporting)

Archie is an Earth-born Unbound living in a Delvin body. A fugitive ally with the ability to travel through stone, he is an able infiltrator whose caution and distrust are balanced by a growing commitment to Felix's cause.

Yin is Vessilia's bonded dawn drake and dragon companion.

Kevin (Supporting)

Kevin is one of two Earth-born kobold twins held captive by Felix Nevarre's enemies.

Theron Mage (Supporting)

A Theron mage takes control of an evacuation skiff and turns it back into the storm around Felix.

Flame is a distinct inner fire urge that presses Atar V'as toward violence while he uses Pyreform Undying.

Pit is Felix's bonded Tenku companion.

Darius Reed (Supporting)

Darius is Felix's sword instructor and a Legion commander operating in Levantir. He secures the Umber Tower and its Shadowgate without bloodshed, then uses the Legion's presence to make hostile tower mages withdraw.

Sylphan Unbound (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 32

The Sylphan Unbound was abducted during Sunara's fall and taken toward Amaranth. Pit regards the loss as a personal failure, while Felix makes the captive's recovery a central objective alongside the missing kobold Unbound.

Mervyn Kors (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 34

Mervyn is a Legion officer commanding in liberated Morva. He oversees local personnel before Felix's forces relocate.

Gabby (Supporting)

Also known as Imara

First appears in chapter 36

Gabby is Felix's sister, a Titan constrained by a divine bargain. In Amaranth she maintains the appearance of serving the gods while delaying their search and secretly following their movements, making resistance possible within her compulsion.

The Hierophant (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

The Hierophant rules Amaranth and stands at the center of the conflict Felix's alliance expects to face.

Cade (Minor)

First appears in chapter 40

Cade is a Legion swordsman selected for an elite unit after his team proves itself in arena evaluations.

Merc (Minor)

First appears in chapter 40

Merc is a Legion recruit selected for an elite unit after his testing team succeeds in an arena evaluation.

Scylla (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 41

Scylla is a cautious Chimera ally from Sunara and Pit's developing romantic partner. She accepts Pit's authority but distrusts companion bonds because of her people's history, creating tension between inherited warnings and Pit's experience with Felix.

Risen Dragon Hatchling (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 34

Beef's risen dragon hatchling helps train Morva's militia and acts on its own initiative. Locals fear it as the Terrible One.

Fafnir (Minor)

First appears in chapter 51

Fafnir is Beef's risen dragon hatchling. Unlike Beef's other Risen, he responds with unusual independence, resists direct orders, and displays a distinct spirit and learned ability during a large training exercise.

Elowen (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 53

Elowen is a Theron Unbound, a true seer, and a former Violet Tower operative. Remorseful about helping create a devastating weapon under divine influence, she begins advising Archie on pillar formation while trying to repair earlier harm.

The Dread (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 66

The Dread is an ancient, immense blood beast dwelling in the Bitter Sea. It rises during the divine assault on Elder Throne, halting the enemy flood and attacking the invaders, though its motives and the danger it poses remain uncertain.

Deep King (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 83

The Deep King unites the Naga clans under Felix's banner and commits a large Naga force to the coming war.

Lizard Unbound

First appears in chapter 93

A huge, hidden lizard Unbound confronts a Titan in an underground reservoir. He wields fire and air, uses a mind skill, and can observe other Unbound through a separate ability.

Wendell (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 95

Wendell is the lizard Unbound whom Beef recognizes as his missing father. He seeks revolution, defeats a temporary divine vessel with prepared reservoir mines, and joins Beef's group.
