Missing since the night Jonathan Morgenstern woke, bound to him by the demon Lilith so that whatever is done to one happens to the other. Nobody knows whether he went willingly, and the Clave has already worked out that killing Jonathan would kill him too.

A Daylighter carrying the Mark of Cain, sharing a flat with Jordan Kyle and no longer welcome at his mother's house. He is Clary's oldest friend and the person she trusts with the parts of a plan she will not tell the Shadowhunters, which puts him in the position of lying to all of them.

A Silent Brother unlike the others: his face is unscarred and he speaks aloud, and he takes an interest in the Herondale boy that he does not fully explain. He was something else before he joined the Brotherhood, and he is willing to help where the Clave will not.
