Dead Ever After characters
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Sookie Stackhouse (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A telepathic waitress and now part owner of Merlotte's, living alone in her grandmother's house with her fairy relatives gone and her one wish spent. Her marriage to Eric Northman is finished in everything but name, she is out of favor with the vampires who used to protect her, and the ordinary business of running a bar in Bon Temps is most of what she has left.
Sam Merlotte (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The shapeshifter who owns Merlotte's, Sookie's business partner and closest friend, recently returned from the dead and not comfortable in his own life since. He is grateful, unsettled and awkward with her in ways neither of them can name.
Eric Northman (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The Viking vampire sheriff of Area Five, still bound by the marriage contract his dead maker signed on his behalf with the queen of Oklahoma. He and Sookie are barely speaking; she chose to spend her one wish on someone else, and he has not pretended it did not matter.
Bill Compton (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Sookie's vampire neighbor, steady and undemanding, who has stopped competing for her and simply keeps himself available. He is one of the few people whose loyalty to her has never been conditional on anything.
Pam Ravenscroft (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
Eric's child and lieutenant, running Fangtasia and openly contemptuous of the Oklahoma arrangement. She would rather see her maker fight it than accept it, and she has little patience left for Sookie's part in the situation.
Jason Stackhouse (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
Sookie's brother, settled at last and engaged to Michele Schubert. He has become genuinely reliable, which is new, and he stands by his sister without needing to be asked.
Arlene Fowler (Minor)
First appears in chapter 3
Sookie's former friend and fellow waitress at Merlotte's, released from prison after her part in a plot against Sookie's life. Broke, unemployable and full of grievance, she comes to the bar to ask for her old job back.
Desmond Cataliades (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 6
A half-demon lawyer who has handled supernatural estates around New Orleans for many years and who was a friend of Sookie's fairy grandfather Fintan. Precise, courteous and enormously well connected, he arrives with information about Sookie's family that nobody else has ever offered her.
Diantha (Minor)
First appears in chapter 6
Mr. Cataliades's niece, a part-demon young woman who dresses in whatever colors come to hand, speaks in a rapid run-on, and is a great deal more dangerous than she looks. She works as her uncle's messenger and muscle.
Freyda (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 8
The vampire queen of Oklahoma, who holds a marriage contract signed by Eric's maker before his death. Handsome, direct and used to getting her way, she comes to Louisiana to see what she has bought.
Copley Carmichael (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 11
A wealthy New Orleans developer, father of Sookie's friend Amelia, who spent months trying to get hold of the fairy token Sookie's grandmother left her. Losing it has not made him lose interest in her.
Steve Newlin (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 11
The former head of the anti-vampire Fellowship of the Sun, disgraced and stripped of his church, now a diminished figure living on other people's tolerance. His hatred of Sookie has survived everything else about him.
Mustapha Khan (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 10
Eric's day man, a werewolf who guards his privacy fiercely and does his job exactly. He keeps his distance from Sookie's affairs and from everyone else's, and volunteers nothing about his own.
Karin (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
A vampire made by Eric long before Pam, cool and self-contained, who has been keeping watch over Sookie on her maker's orders without ever introducing herself.
