They breach the undead fortress, kill the Lich King, dismantle the conversion array, and remove the Seed of Undeath. The undead nexus disappears, but an Everlasting Dao leader escapes, Zac is badly injured, Alea's fate is unresolved, and new evidence points toward hidden bloodline history and possible dealings between a local faction and another incursion.

Previously: Zac leads Port Atwood and can cultivate through both living and Draugr forms, a dual nature he keeps concealed from most outsiders. Ogras is his demon partner and commander, while Kenzie, Alea, Thea Marshall, Billy, Emily, and the Valkyries form part of the force protecting his territory. Earth remains threatened by hostile incursions and by the Great Redeemer, a continuing enemy. Zac and Ogras have entered the Tower of Eternity seeking strength and a possible patron who can help shield Earth from that wider threat.

Zac and Ogras test Zac's new undead skills while advancing through the Tower, then separate so each can pursue his own climb. Zac learns True Strike from a guardian who first teaches and then tries to assassinate him, clears the fifth floor, and gains Cosmic Gaze. On the sixth floor he enters a Dao Discourse against three dryad siblings who covertly combine their power. Zac answers by unleashing his Axe and Coffin fragments together, winning access to the Pool of Tranquility. The pool strengthens his soul but also carries a hidden control seed. A mentalist's soul attack nearly destroys Zac and frees the Oblivion splinter from its restraints. In the Battle of Fates, an immensely powerful flame cultivator tests Zac with a fire beam, claims they are linked by fate, and marks him before he breaks through her barrier and escapes through the teleporter. Zac advances through more Tower trials while searching for something capable of restraining the escaped Oblivion splinter. His route eventually brings him aboard a Technocrat vessel carrying a shard of creation. The ship's crew cannot safely control its effects, and Zac decides the shard may be his only chance to counter the force inside him. He infiltrates the vessel, learns that Technocrat advancement depends on integrated machinery and soul strength, and coerces a communications officer into guiding him. Leandra's necklace unexpectedly grants Zac high security access under an archaic authority code. After capturing the specialist responsible for containment, Zac abandons stealth and begins a direct push toward the shard chamber.

Zac reaches the creation shard but is overpowered by the vessel's D-grade captain. The shard enters Zac and proves as dangerous as Oblivion, turning stray desires into destructive changes while consuming his life force. Zac sabotages the ship and escapes into the next Tower level, where a dragon attacks as the two inner forces tear at their failing restraints. By forcing his life and death Dao powers together, he creates a chaos pattern that the System binds with golden fractals. The dragon dies, and the new cage holds the weakened creation and Oblivion remnants in mutual restraint. Zac reaches Alea's stasis site after undead agents have tried to convert her. Her body and soul are collapsing, but she communicates that she does not want to die. Rejecting a revenant transformation that would erase her identity or bind her to an undead ruler, Zac activates the Divine Investiture Array with her apparent consent. The process consumes rare materials and remakes her into a chained coffin spirit tool called Love's Bond. Its shield protects Zac, and a faint response suggests some connection remains, but Alea cannot communicate and her survival as a conscious person is not confirmed. Ogras returns and objects to the transformation, though he continues working with Zac as the surviving defenders assess the invasion.
