In short (whole book)

After defeating Earth's undead invasion, Zac closes the Church of Everlasting Dao's last incursion and secures an S-grade integration result. He then supports the Zhix Crusade against the Dominators, kills Harbinger with a dangerous annihilation attack, and survives heavenly punishment after committing to a boundless path of life, death, and war. Adcarkas escapes a later ambush, while Ogras survives fatal injuries through his shadow companion, Spare. Zac's allies reopen the expanding Mystic Realm, where rival Earth factions, native peoples, cultists, and Dominators seek a maturing dimensional seed. A repository trial exposes Zac's corrupted Void Emperor bloodline. Inside the realm, he gains a Spiritual Void node and compulsory Path Strider quests, rescues Leviala and most of a captured scouting party, and escapes the Collector with two followers dead. Using Leandra's technocrat credential and a captured mapper, he chooses the Inner Lab 16 route toward the base core, giving up the training chain's highest reward to confront the greater threat before the seed matures.

Previously, in earlier books (earlier books)

Previously: The System transformed Earth and connected it to a lethal cultivation universe. Zac rose from isolation to become a leading defender of the planet, founding Port Atwood and gathering human, demon, and other allies around it. His public human path is paired with a concealed Draugr form, leaving him to balance life and death energies while protecting secrets that could draw the Undead Empire. His sister Kenzie supports the settlement with arrays and unusual technology, while their missing mother, Leandra, remains tied to unanswered questions about their family. Ogras serves as Zac's closest demon partner, and Thea Marshall, Billy, Joanna, and other Earth fighters have become important allies. Earth has survived successive incursions and the realignment conflict, but the integration is not fully settled. The Great Redeemer remains a distant threat, rival Earth governments pursue their own plans, and the Church of Everlasting Dao still has forces on the planet. A sealed Mystic Realm connected to ancient bloodline research may hold both answers and a dimensional prize. Zac begins this volume after defeating the undead invasion, with damaged pathways, a divided planet, and several surviving enemies still competing for Earth's future.

Story so far - through chapter 18 (this book)

So far this book: Zac learns that the sealed Mystic Realm may be an ancient bloodline-research complex and could explain Earth's unusual bloodlines, his Void Heart, and Leandra's interest in the planet. Access from Mystic Island is destroyed, leaving allies trapped, while the New World Government pursues a dimensional artifact through its own entrance. Zac repairs his pathways, establishes a paired life-and-death cultivation cave, strengthens his soul, and gains Rapturous Divide after advancing his understanding of the Dao. Kenzie develops teleportation jammers for a future campaign against the Dominator-aligned Zhix and agrees that Jeeves must be hidden from possible technocrat detection. Julia reports deep cultist infiltration of the New World Government and a limited window before the Mystic Realm entrances destabilize. Zac therefore crosses a dangerous mountain range alone to find the Church of Everlasting Dao's final incursion. The cultists lure him into a volcanic trap, binding him beneath a conviction-powered sigil and holy fire. He survives by layering his Draugr defenses, captures the Nexus Hub, and closes the incursion. Earth completes its integration with an S-grade result.

Story so far - through chapter 28 (this book)

So far this book: With the final incursion closed, Port Atwood receives its S-grade integration rewards. Zac gains a permanent title, better attribute efficiency, an emergency return array, an improved Nexus Hub, and a force of E-grade puppets. Kenzie identifies Lila as the settlement's coerced informant and kills her for passing secrets to the cultists. Zac finds corruption in a subordinate settlement and starts planning formal law enforcement and stronger oversight. He also selects a shipyard upgrade, although its four rare materials cannot currently be found on Earth. After testing his Draugr techniques in a dangerous volcanic region, Zac completes a class quest and acquires Blighted Cut, a corrosive weapon skill. Thea Marshall and Billy enter separate inheritances at the Towers of Myriad Dao, with Thea facing the Blade Emperor's trial and Billy pursuing a legacy tied to his possible Titan ancestry. Their results remain uncertain. Meanwhile, the Zhix request Zac at their War Council, and he prepares elite teams and Kenzie's completed jamming arrays for the coming campaign against the Dominators.

Story so far - through chapter 34 (this book)

After the incursion closes, Kenzie exposes Lila as the coerced informant who leaked Port Atwood's secrets and executes her. Zac receives major integration rewards, including a permanent title, improved attribute efficiency, an emergency return array, an upgraded Nexus Hub, and a thousand E-grade puppet soldiers. He also begins planning civil law enforcement and tighter oversight after discovering corruption in one of his settlements. A shipyard upgrade offers further growth but requires four rare materials unavailable on Earth. Zac refines his Draugr combat style, earns the corrosive Blighted Cut skill, and sends Thea and Billy into the Blade Emperor and Titan inheritances. Calrin catalogs a vast Tower hoard that can help Port Atwood become an E-grade power. Thea survives a deadly test of commitment to her weapon, while Billy gains guidance from a figure connected to his possible Titan ancestry. Triv then discovers life-attuned crystals and miasma near Port Atwood's Nexus vein. The evidence suggests Earth's world core is developing a paired life-and-death attunement as part of its integration reward. The change could benefit Zac but might also destabilize the planet. As Zac continues painful body and soul refinement, he readies Kenzie's jammers for the Zhix war.

Story so far - through chapter 39 (this book)

The Zhix Anointed declare a final Crusade against the Dominators. They knowingly trade away their futures for temporary strength and plan for clergy, an army, and a Templar order to replace them afterward. Zac agrees to protect the Zhix population's place in the new order and supplies jammers that can block teleportation and communication. Thea emerges from the Blade Emperor inheritance severely wounded but carrying a storm sword and a limited reserve of sword intent. She joins Zac and Triv as they guide the Crusade through human teleporters. The first Dominator-aligned hives are isolated and overrun, but the Anointed intend a complete purge that includes civilians. Zac is disturbed by the slaughter yet continues supporting the operation because challenging the foundation of Zhix society could turn the Crusade against him. At the fifth target, the Dominators are prepared. Their arrays and rear assault pin the invading army, and a far stronger enemy intervenes before Zac can enter the battle. Harbinger immobilizes Zac and Thea inside a spatial and karmic lock. With a spear closing on him, Zac draws on the volatile remnants within his soul and releases an annihilation sphere that destroys most of Harbinger's body.

Story so far - through chapter 48 (this book)

Harbinger dies and is identified as Karath, the brother of Inevitability and a former promising Zhix scholar. Zac's annihilation attack grants him enormous energy but empties the remnants in his soul, wounds his mind, and leaves strange cracks across his body. Inevitability awakens an implanted bloodline in rage, while the former Zhix sage Adcarkas prepares to pursue Zac inside the Mystic Realm. Billy returns from the Titan inheritance with a new movement skill, and the Zhix arrange a final mass battle to decide their future. Zac uses the remaining preparation time to repair his pathways and gather resources in a dangerous swamp, securing flowers that can temporarily raise an E-grade warrior's cultivation. Ogras reaches level 83 and accepts Karath's spatial spear in return for a future repayment. During the Zhix battle, Zac sees life, death, and war as the three forces defining his path. His axe and personal struggle provide the means to direct the opposed energies. The insight suggests a way to control creation and oblivion without surrendering to either. Before he can consolidate it, purple lightning visible only to him pierces every defense, strikes his soul, and leaves him gravely injured.

Story so far - through chapter 53 (this book)

Triv identifies the purple bolt as an ancient heavenly tribulation. Zac's new insight has placed him on a boundless path beyond Heaven's mandate, where further progress may provoke stronger suppression and eventually interfere with System access. Zac refuses to abandon the life-death-war framework, though his Void Heart can retain only a fragment of the lightning. The Zhix civil war ends at an immense cost, but coordinated attacks on Port Atwood's mining settlements force Zac to leave the aftermath. He anticipates the last target and travels there with Ogras, Rhubat, an illusionist, and six other Anointed. Adcarkas arrives through a spatial portal and admits that he is retaliating for Karath's death while preparing to contest the dimensional seed. The ambush fails to contain him. He imprisons two Anointed, cripples others, and displays overwhelming spatial techniques. Zac and Ogras eventually create an opening for Rapturous Divide, apparently cutting Adcarkas in half, but a taboo karmic effigy transfers the death and lets him escape. He nearly kills Ogras before leaving. Ogras's bonded shadow creature rebuilds his destroyed heart and organs, saving him. Ogras renames the transformed companion Spare, while Adcarkas retreats to the Mystic Realm badly wounded and burdened by his survival treasure's curse.

Story so far - through chapter 56 (this book)

Zac declines to chase the wounded Adcarkas because his own group is exhausted and several Anointed have been killed or lost. Rhubat confirms that their enemy was once the Sage of the Basin, a celebrated Zhix scholar and craftsman. Security records show that Adcarkas suffered serious backlash before fleeing toward the Mystic Realm. Ogras survives, but Spare is redrawing his pathways and altering his shadow affinity, leaving him unable to fight for at least a month. Port Atwood assembles more than five thousand fighters and support personnel for a major expedition, drawing forces from Port Atwood, the Marshall Alliance, the Underworld Council, the Tal-Eladar, and the Zhix. Zac accepts Tal-Eladar scouts and healers while reserving the dimensional artifact and the greatest finds for his own faction. He avoids attacking the New World Government before entry, since damaging another tunnel could release hostile natives or make the realm even less stable. Kenzie's outer array repairs and stabilizes the route from Mystic Island. Zac and Ogras cross first, confirm that the passage holds, and call the main force through. The Mystic Realm is visibly expanding, and native observers detect the new arrivals as the expedition establishes its foothold.

Story so far - through chapter 63 (this book)

Inside the Mystic Realm, Zac's expedition secures an outer biosphere while the ancient complex expands around them. Ordinary structures and terrain gain mass, widening vents and making old maps unreliable, while spiritual materials and living things remain unchanged. Rhubat brings in the Anointed, and the Earth forces begin building a foothold with the trapped personnel. Their access to the technocrat systems is narrow: Jeeves creates a caretaker credential for Kenzie, and Leandra's talisman identifies Zac as a Council Inspector, but the available controls reveal little beyond local functions. A Zhix scout also asks Zac to seek a cure for the damage caused by the Anointed's elixir. Scouting the inner corridors, Zac and Ogras encounter repaired passageways, concealed spatial tears, and corrupted defenses that appear to track intruders. They recover a native sign offering alliance and a route through the hazards, but cannot yet trust its makers. After an elite scouting squad disappears, Kenzie estimates that growing spatial turbulence may sever the passage to Earth within seven to twelve days. Zac leaves briefly to attempt the Dao Repository trial before the expedition loses its route home.

Story so far - through chapter 68 (this book)

Inside the Mystic Realm, Zac's forces secure an outer biosphere and discover that the technocrat complex is physically growing as ordinary dead matter gains mass. Kenzie's AI forges a chief-caretaker identity for her, while Leandra's talisman grants Zac Council Inspector access. Their credentials provide only limited control, and the base is filled with repaired corridors, tracking spatial tears, corrupted barriers, and other active defenses. A native clan leaves a map and a plea for alliance, but one of Zac's scouting squads soon disappears. The route back to Earth may fail within days. Needing more power before the expedition is trapped, Zac returns to the Towers of Myriad Dao and attempts the second-floor trial. He consumes a berserking rageroot resource and fights a half-step D-grade blacksmith construct amid lava. The boost increases his strength but drives him into a dangerous frenzy. By learning to redirect the guardian's hammer, accumulating Blighted Cut corrosion, and destroying its protected core, Zac barely wins. The repository tool spirit penalizes his reliance on the berserking item, yet still begins the promised tempering. Exhausted, wounded, stripped of his equipment, and restrained, Zac is hammered toward a magma pool for a forced cleansing.

Story so far - through chapter 74 (this book)

The repository's lava-forge tempering removes toxins, old injuries, hostile Dao remnants, a curse, and several hidden tracking brands from Zac. It also exposes two concealed node locations and reveals his unawakened bloodline as a corrupted Void Emperor bloodline. Zac gains access to fourteen selected E-grade skills, replacing and expanding much of his combat kit before returning to the Mystic Realm. The expedition has mapped an outer band but cannot pass its spatial barriers except through a massive sealed gate indicated by the native clan. Thea, Billy, and Joanna have already tested the route, and Billy's attempt to force the gate triggered its defenses. Emily joins the next party after demonstrating a support totem that strengthens allies and restores energy. Zac, Thea, Billy, Joanna, and Emily travel for hours to the gate and activate it. Beyond lies a transparent field station and an immense forest under nine moonlike orbs. Five still function, filling the area with dense energy. An illusion hides a huge population of E-grade wolves whose shared moon suppresses the intruders' attacks. The pack surrounds the group, forcing Zac to deploy one of his new E-grade techniques as the first battle inside the inner area begins.

Story so far - through chapter 85 (this book)

Zac and his allies fight through the lunar-wolf pack. Thea kills one leader with a costly attack, while Zac holds the rest back so Billy can carry the exhausted Thea and Emily toward safety. Zac's Void Heart absorbs battle energy, then releases two streams that strike his soul. He opens the Spiritual Void hidden node, forms an early cultivation structure around his Axe, Coffin, and Bodhi projections, advances his Axe Fragment, and receives the Path Strider title. The title immediately imposes compulsory training. While exploring alone, Zac finds werewolves carrying an unconscious Leviala and learns they also hold his missing scouts. He defeats the abductors, and Leviala's unexplained warning saves him from a concealed attacker. A first rescue objective is followed by a stricter deadline to recover seven prisoners from a relay station. Leviala offers to liaise with her clan after Zac explains the threats facing Earth. She can read some base technology but cannot rewrite it like a datamancer. Zac uses Leandra's credential to bypass the damaged gate instead. Leviala then explains that her people and other populations were abducted for bloodline experiments, that the Tsarun clan once controlled them, and that the Cataclysm shattered the complex thousands of years ago.

Story so far - through chapter 91 (this book)

Leviala guides Zac through unstable corridors and the wasteland beyond the wall. She reveals that Heaven's Eyes are a form of time sight inherited from her clan's founder. She can see fragments of the past and risk brief glimpses of the future, but each use permanently harms her. The Tsarun and the Lunar Tribe seek that bloodline for its longevity benefits. Zac promises to protect its secrecy so long as Leviala does not oppose his people. He then disguises himself as a slain werewolf leader, enters the relay station, and frees the captured scouts. His attack collapses part of the underpowered facility, allowing the Collector, a void creature formed from attached body parts, to reach inside. One unconscious scout is taken and another dies during the escape. Zac gets the rest beyond a red barrier, but Path Strider immediately orders him to lead his followers to safety while avoiding the creature. The Collector pursues them through spatial tears. Zac protects the wounded party and uses an annihilation sphere to cripple one tentacle, worsening the strange cracks in his body. When the group is nearly overwhelmed, the base activates successive barriers that admit the expedition members while blocking the pursuing limbs.

Story so far - through chapter 92 (this book)

The damaged section behind Zac's group vanishes into the void, exposing the Collector's immense main body and the remains of many races attached to it. The base responds with more than a hundred memory-steel rings and drives the creature back with concentrated energy attacks. Zac uses the distraction to lead Leviala and the surviving scouts through the gate into the moonlit forest, completing the third Path Strider task. Two expedition members are dead, but the remainder reach safety and receive treatment. Leviala cannot remember how Zac wounded the Collector, confirming that witnesses lose the details of his annihilation sphere. Equipment taken from the Lunar Tribe includes a mapper containing routes, traps, and security information across the base and wasteland. Leandra's token activates it as a universal technocrat key. The next Path Strider task offers Zac two routes before the dimensional seed matures: the wasteland's heart or Inner Lab 16. Choosing the laboratory forfeits the best reward tier and shortens the training chain, but it also leads toward the base core and the enemies seeking the seed. Zac chooses Inner Lab 16. Adcarkas, Inevitability, and the surviving cultists remain ahead, while the Collector and the deteriorating route to Earth remain unresolved behind him.

How does it end? (ending)

Zac returns beyond the base wall with Leviala and the surviving scouts after the base turns its defenses against the Collector. Two members of his expedition have died, the Collector's ultimate fate is unknown, and Zac's annihilation attack has worsened the unexplained cracks in his body. Witnesses cannot retain how that attack works. Thea and Emily are recovering from the lunar-wolf battle, Joanna remains with the field-station force, and Ogras is still unable to fight while Spare reconstructs his pathways. Rhubat and the surviving Anointed support the expedition, but no cure has been found for the damage caused by their elixir. Kenzie retains limited access through Jeeves, while Leandra's token lets Zac operate technocrat equipment as a Council Inspector. A mapper taken from the Lunar Tribe reveals routes toward the inner laboratories. Zac selects the Inner Lab 16 branch of his Path Strider training, forfeiting the best reward tier and shortening the chain. He now heads toward the base core before the dimensional seed matures. Adcarkas and Inevitability remain active in the realm, Church survivors still seek the seed, the route to Earth is deteriorating, and the Collector remains an unresolved danger behind them.
