His knowledge, strength, movement, and sword skill carry him through the tests, although his actual performance increasingly exceeds the neural interface's measurements. During the final stage, he recognizes an adjutant connected to the destruction of Innocent Meadow. The man is Colin, son of General Larvie. After Hadjar defeats his assigned opponent without a lethal strike, Colin accuses him of fraud and demands another duel. Larvie allows Colin to fight while limiting the Transformation-stage adjutant to lower-level power. Colin wounds Hadjar and uses a dangerous technique, but Hadjar counters with a lethal sword attack. She recognizes South Wind's seal and identifies herself as his student, then explains that prisoners are intended as food for enemy monsters. Serra joins the sabotage. The trio sets the camp ablaze and escapes with South Wind's magical talismans despite an attack from a powerful spirit knight. Back at the fort, their report helps Leen expose Sirius's treason: he abandoned patrols, sold soldiers to a mine, and left the defenses dangerously depleted. At the final signal, they shelter inside the body of an armored beast while the entire fort is detonated around the pursuing horde. Both survive with severe injuries.
