A veteran swordsman entering the imperial capital with Einen and Rekha. After breaking the seal on a sword spirit and reuniting the divided parts of his soul, he encounters the presence of his dead master and begins a final period of inner training.

Hadjar's sworn brother and closest travelling companion. He accompanies Hadjar into the imperial capital but is excluded from the emperor's first audience.

A Guard Corps officer who enters the imperial capital with Hadjar and Einen.

Hadjar's deceased master, appearing as a presence on the Mountain of Elements after the sword-spirit seal breaks. He offers his student one last span of training beyond ordinary bodily time.

Lord of Nightmares (Antagonist)

The demon prince behind a bargain secured against Hadjar's soul. Through an emissary, he demands that Hadjar uncover the merchant house's hidden activity and its connection to demons before the agreed deadline.

An imperial official who serves Morgan and participates in planning a covert strike against enemy manufacturing facilities.

Annis (Supporting)

A claimant within the Predatory Blades clan. She invokes an existing oath that binds Hadjar, Einen, and Dora to help remove her uncle from leadership of the clan.

Morgan's daughter, sent to the Predatory Blades celebration on her father's instructions. Her arrival publicly signals that the imperial family knows Hadjar is attempting something within the clan district.

A Fey artisan known to Karine's late mother. The blacksmith offers to forge a knife that can remove Karine's demon-blood parasite, provided Hadjar obtains ironwood.

A powerful Fey being that exchanges ironwood essence for a rare flower made in the blacksmith's forge. It foresees another meeting with Hadjar, a battle between them, and a final war caused by his return.

Moonlight Sect patriarch (Supporting)

The leader of the Moonlight Sect and Morgan's former teacher. He refuses to commit his sect to a war against other humans when Morgan asks for its support.

Ancient wizard's phantom (Supporting)

An ancient magical construct that appears before Hadjar and the imperial princess as they reach the final guardian of the Ever-Seeking Spear.

Masked sectarian (Supporting)

A masked figure from an earlier encounter who approaches Hadjar in a tavern and greets him as a brother.

Masked Raven sect lord (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 62

The masked visitor is a returning lord of the Raven sect. He tells Hadjar that the sect is not presently his enemy and begins explaining its knowledge of higher cultivation.

Archimea (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 66

A lord-level twin-saber fighter who leads the bandits attacking Hadjar's caravan. Hadjar recognizes her as an acquaintance from his desert travels, but her reason for approaching the frontier remains unclear.

White Fang (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 71

A white-haired swordsman travelling toward Sakashim with Aria, Lita, and an older servant. His plain weapon and damaged manner conceal strength that Hadjar cannot measure, yet he allows Hadjar and Tom to accompany the family.

Aria (Minor)

First appears in chapter 71

Lita's mother and one of the travellers under White Fang's protection. She accepts Hadjar's help with the family's cart while continuing toward Sakashim.

Lita (Minor)

Aria's scarred young daughter, travelling under White Fang's protection. She recognizes Hadjar as North Wind but promises to keep his identity secret and speaks for allowing him to travel with them.

Small Stream chief (Supporting)

The leader of Small Stream, descended from Sakashim's former defenders. He refuses to provide workers for the abandoned mine and confronts Hadjar after recognizing North Wind.

The adult heir of Small Stream's chief and a witness to Hadjar's dispute with the village. He faces Hadjar's warning that the coming war will require him to defend his family.

Chained Fae giant (Supporting)

An immense Fae prisoner held by inscribed chains in the deepest part of Sakashim's abandoned mine. He recognizes something familiar in Hadjar and claims kinship, but his name and full history are not yet known.

Adagir (Supporting)

The name of the chained Fae giant Hadjar found beneath Sakashim. Freya identifies him as the last guardian of the Mountain of Skulls and confirms that he belongs to Hadjar's distant ancestry.

A powerful Fae contact whom Hadjar can now compel to appear through his developing command of wind. He summons her to explain whether she intervened in the chained giant's fate.

Shepherd recruit (Minor)

A socially isolated shepherd who voluntarily enters the Moon Stream Army even though its severe training frightens him. The senior lieutenant accepts his enlistment.

Stepfang (Supporting)

Hadjar's former orc ally, now leading the force approaching Sakashim. His missing limbs have been replaced with rune-marked steel, and he steps forward from the host after Hadjar cuts a trench across its path.

Emperor's son (Supporting)

Morgan's son is a skilled swordsman posted to the northern front, where he serves as a Third Legion general's aide-de-camp. He receives command of one hundred selected soldiers for a covert strike against Laskan's golem production.

Dragonlands minister (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 95

A Dragonlands minister pursuing Hadjar under imperial orders. After observing Hadjar from afar, he decides to monitor him rather than attempt an immediate seizure.

Magic Dawn Pavilion head (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 95

An ancient dragon living in human form who watches the consequences of Stepfang's death alongside a Dragonlands minister. The pavilion head has kept Hadjar's ancestral connection to a human technique-bearer from the minister.

First chief (Minor)

First appears in chapter 96

The leader of the assembled orc tribes at Stepfang's funeral. He accepts Hadjar as an orc-brother and is responsible for carrying out the pledge that now governs the great hunt.

Unidentified white-haired swordsman (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 96

A hostile duelist who strikes Hadjar during the full moon. The attacker escapes Hadjar's magical awareness and inflicts catastrophic damage, but neither identity nor motive is established.
