Echoes of Honor
By David Weber
The eighth entry in the Honor Harrington series opens with Haven's announcement that Honor Harrington has been executed as an ordinary criminal, denied the protections owed a prisoner of war, prompting state funerals, political maneuvering over her succession on Grayson, and grief across two star nations that believe her dead. In truth, propaganda fabricated the footage: Honor has survived brutal captivity and is hidden in the equatorial jungle of the prison planet Hades with a small band of fellow escapees, working to rebuild her strength and gather intelligence on the garrison's defenses. As she begins reaching out to other prisoners for potential allies, Manticore's navy quietly pursues a secret new weapons program while the fallout of her presumed death reshapes alliances at home.
