Exile: Legend of Drizzt: Dark Elf Trilogy, Book 2 characters
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Drizzt Do'Urden (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A drow exile from the city of Menzoberranzan, living alone in the wild tunnels of the Underdark since he renounced his people's goddess and abandoned his family. He is an extraordinary fighter with two blades, and survival on his own terms has cost him: to stay alive among predators he has learned to give himself over to a purely instinctive killing state, and each year there is less of the person and more of the hunter left when the fighting stops.
Guenhwyvar (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A great black panther called out of another world by an onyx figurine that Drizzt carries. She can be summoned for only so long before she must return and rest, and she is Drizzt's only companion in the tunnels: the one relationship that keeps him speaking, remembering who he is, and behaving like a person rather than an animal.
Matron Malice Do'Urden (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 2
Matron Mother of House Do'Urden and Drizzt's mother. Her youngest son's desertion and heresy have cost her house the Spider Queen's favor, and with it her standing in the city. She is consumed by the need to have him killed and restored to the goddess's ledger, and she takes her frustration out on everyone in her household.
Briza Do'Urden (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 2
The eldest Do'Urden daughter and senior priestess of the house, orthodox and violent, who blames Drizzt entirely for the family's fall from favor and presses her mother to act.
Vierna Do'Urden (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
The Do'Urden daughter who raised Drizzt through his first sixteen years, now a priestess in a house that cannot afford sentiment. Of all his family she is the one whose feelings about him are complicated, which in Menzoberranzan is itself a liability.
Maya Do'Urden (Minor)
First appears in chapter 3
The youngest Do'Urden daughter, a priestess maneuvering for position among her sisters while the house's fortunes decline.
Dinin Do'Urden (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 2
Elderboy of House Do'Urden and Drizzt's surviving brother, the house's chief warrior and the leader of its patrols. Competent, ambitious and wholly self-interested, he serves his mother's hunt for Drizzt as the surest way to keep his own position.
Rizzen Do'Urden (Minor)
First appears in chapter 3
The patron of House Do'Urden, Matron Malice's consort, whose survival depends entirely on her mood in a season when her mood is very bad.
SiNafay Hun'ett (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 4
Matron Mother of House Hun'ett, a rival family ranked close to House Do'Urden. Her son died at Drizzt's hands in the tunnels, and she treats House Do'Urden's disgrace as the opening she has waited for, moving from quiet subversion toward open war.
Jarlaxle (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 6
The leader of a mercenary band of houseless drow males who sell their services to the noble houses and take no side but their own. Flamboyant, theatrical and armed with an assortment of magical oddities, he is the best-informed individual in Menzoberranzan and profits from every house war he is hired into.
Belwar Dissengulp (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 8
A svirfneblin, or deep gnome, of the city of Blingdenstone, and once a burrow warden of high standing. Years ago a drow patrol took him prisoner, cut off his hands and released him as a warning; he now wears a war hammer and a mining pick mounted in place of them. Blunt, proud, and slower to hate than his history would justify, he remembers that one young drow argued for his life.
Clacker (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 11
A pech, one of a peaceable race of stone-shapers, transformed by a wizard's curse into a hook horror, an armored tunnel predator. He keeps his own mind and his own name, but every time he fights, more of the beast's nature stays with him afterward, and he knows the process will not stop.
Zaknafein Do'Urden (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 16
Drizzt's father, the former weapon master of House Do'Urden, who was sacrificed to the Spider Queen after his son fled the city. His corpse is the instrument of the favor Lolth grants Matron Malice: a spirit-wraith, animated and driven by the matron's will, carrying all of Zaknafein's skill and none of his choices.
