Feet of Clay characters

By Terry Pratchett

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Samuel Vimes (Protagonist)

Also known as Sir Samuel Vimes

Appears from the start

Commander of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch and, to his own discomfort, now a knight and a married man. A dogged, incorruptible policeman who deeply distrusts the powerful and the well-born, himself included.

Carrot Ironfoundersson (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The Watch's Captain, a huge, plain-spoken, dwarf-raised man whose transparent decency gives him a natural command over the city's people. He keeps quietly to himself the evidence that he may be Ankh-Morpork's true king.

Angua (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A sergeant in the Watch and Carrot's partner in work and in life, a young woman who is also a werewolf. Sharp-nosed and self-contained, she brings senses no human officer can match to an investigation.

Fred Colon (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The Watch's stout, cautious sergeant, promoted well beyond his ambitions and happiest when a shift passes without incident.

Nobby Nobbs (Minor)

Appears from the start

The Watch's grubby, disreputable corporal, a small scrounger of famously uncertain ancestry, forever on the lookout for a profitable angle.

Lord Vetinari (Supporting)

Also known as The Patrician, Havelock Vetinari

Appears from the start

The cold and brilliant Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, the city's ruler. As the story begins he starts, inexplicably, to fall ill, and his physicians cannot say why.

Cheery Littlebottom (Minor)

Appears from the start

A dwarf newly hired into the Watch as an alchemist and examiner of evidence, meticulous and clever with substances and analysis. Cheery quietly begins to defy dwarf custom by presenting openly as female.

Dorfl (Supporting)

Appears from the start

One of the city's golems, a man-shaped figure of fired clay that works without rest, food, or sleep, owned like a tool and animated by a scroll of sacred words placed in its head. Golems never speak and never stop; Dorfl labors in a slaughterhouse.

Dragon King of Arms (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The ancient master of Ankh-Morpork's College of Arms, the office that records bloodlines and grants coats of arms. A frail, near-blind vampire of enormous age, he presides with quiet authority over the city's tangled genealogies.
