Frankenstein (adaptation) recap

Explorer Robert Walton rescues Victor Frankenstein in the Arctic and hears the scientist's history. Victor discovered how to animate dead matter, made a huge humanlike being, and deserted it in fear. The isolated creature learned language and kindness by watching the De Lacey family, but repeated rejection turned his longing into vengeance. He killed Victor's brother and caused Justine's execution, then demanded a female companion. Victor agreed before destroying the unfinished second being. The creature retaliated by murdering Henry Clerval and Victor's bride, Elizabeth. Victor pursued him into the far north and died aboard Walton's ship. Mourning over his creator, the creature declared that he would destroy himself and vanished onto the ice.

During an Arctic expedition, Captain Robert Walton's crew rescues Victor Frankenstein from the ice. Victor recognizes in Walton the same hunger for discovery that once ruled him and begins to explain its cost. He grew up in Switzerland among a loving family, especially his adopted cousin Elizabeth, then left to study science. Fascinated by the source of life, he cut himself off from everyone while pursuing a secret experiment.

Victor's studies lead him to a way of awakening dead material. He spends months constructing an oversized human form, neglecting his health and ignoring letters from home. When the body moves, the result frightens him so completely that he runs away instead of caring for it. Henry Clerval arrives and nurses the feverish Victor, who tries to put the abandoned being and his work out of mind.

News that Victor's little brother William has been murdered draws him home. He suspects the creature, yet remains silent while Justine Moritz is convicted and executed. The creature later confronts him and tells of surviving alone, being attacked because of his face, and secretly observing the De Lacey family. From them he learned speech, reading, and affection. His attempt to introduce himself peacefully ended when the sighted family members drove him away. Bitter at universal rejection, he killed William and planted evidence on Justine. He now demands that Victor make a female being who can share his exile.

Victor accepts the creature's demand and travels away from his family to work in isolation. Before completing the female, he fears that the two beings may refuse to withdraw or create descendants. He destroys his work while the creature watches. In response, the creature promises to be with him on his wedding night. Victor is later accused of murder and discovers that the victim is Henry Clerval. Though he is cleared, he returns home convinced that the threat concerns his own death and agrees to marry Elizabeth.

Victor misreads the creature's warning. While he searches for an attack on himself, the creature murders Elizabeth. Victor's father dies soon afterward, and Victor devotes himself to pursuing his creation across Europe and into the Arctic. The chase ends when Walton's crew finds Victor near death. He finishes his story aboard the ship and dies. The creature appears beside the body, grieving for Victor and acknowledging that his killings have not relieved his suffering. He announces that he will burn himself to death, leaves the ship, and vanishes across the ice. Walton abandons the polar expedition and heads home.

The creature kills Elizabeth on her wedding night, and Victor's father soon dies under the weight of the family's losses. Victor follows his creation north until the pursuit leaves him stranded and dying on the Arctic ice. Walton rescues him, but Victor dies aboard the ship after completing his account. The creature comes to the body and admits that revenge has brought only further misery. He says that he will end his own life, then disappears across the frozen sea. Walton turns his expedition toward home, and no one witnesses whether the creature fulfils his final intention.
