Fugitive Telemetry characters
By Martha Wells
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Murderbot (Protagonist)
Also known as SecUnit
Appears from the start
Living on Preservation Station under Dr. Mensah's protection, the SecUnit has legal status of a sort, a security consultant's job, and no friends at all in Station Security, which regards an armed construct wandering its corridors as a problem it did not ask for. It has agreed not to hack station systems, a restriction it resents continuously and which makes ordinary investigative work far harder than it should be.
Senior Officer Indah (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The head of Station Security, professional, unimpressed, and openly opposed to a construct taking part in her investigation. She cooperates because Dr. Mensah asks her to, and sets conditions the SecUnit has to work inside rather than around.
Dr. Ayda Mensah (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The planetary administrator who holds the SecUnit's contract as a legal shield and is the reason it lives on Preservation at all. She backs its involvement in the investigation and absorbs the political consequences of doing so.
Officer Aylen (Minor)
First appears in chapter 2
A Station Security officer assigned to the case, and one of the few willing to work alongside the SecUnit without making an issue of what it is.
Dr. Ratthi (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
A friend from the old survey team, cheerfully willing to be pulled into an investigation and genuinely useful for the parts of it that require talking to people, which the SecUnit would rather avoid.
Pin-Lee (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 3
The lawyer from the old survey team, who handles the legal side of a construct doing police work in a polity that has never had to think about either.
Dr. Gurathin (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 3
The augmented human from the old survey team, quick inside the feed and useful for exactly the data work the SecUnit has promised not to do by hacking.
