George's Marvelous Medicine characters

An eight-year-old boy living on a farm with his parents and grandmother. Left alone to give Grandma her regular medicine, he decides to replace it with a concoction of his own in the hope of changing her unpleasant behavior.

George's elderly maternal grandmother, who lives with the Kranky family. She orders George about, complains constantly, and frightens him with claims about strange powers and habits. Her scheduled spoonful of brown medicine gives George the opportunity for his experiment.

George's mother and Grandma's daughter. Before leaving to shop, she tells George to remain at home and give Grandma her medicine at the proper time, trusting him with what appears to be a simple household task.

First appears in chapter 10

George's father, a farmer with an intense interest in making his livestock larger. When he sees the extraordinary growth caused by George's mixture, he immediately thinks of its agricultural possibilities and presses George to reproduce it.

A farmyard hen chosen by George as the first test subject after Grandma's transformation. A small dose makes the bird grow to an enormous size, demonstrating that the mixture affects animals as dramatically as people.
