Previously: Stephanie Plum recovered elderly fugitive Eddie DeChooch after his cigarette-smuggling case expanded into a dangerous hunt for a stolen human heart. She and her allies also found Mooner and Dougie alive. During the case, Stephanie's family accelerated wedding plans for her and Joe Morelli, but Stephanie recognized that she had not freely chosen the marriage. She abandoned the engagement and went to Ranger's door instead. She begins this book no longer Morelli's prospective wife, still emotionally connected to him, and newly willing to confront the attraction to Ranger that has accompanied their professional partnership for years.
