Previously: Jason Asano returned to Palimustus after profound changes on Earth, carrying an expanding soul realm, three familiars, and connections to powers operating beyond ordinary mortal ranks. His companions remained divided across worlds and conflicts, while messenger factions, the Builder, and other astral forces competed around him. An expedition beneath the Brightheart homeland became trapped amid a dimensional disaster involving a great messenger tree, a damaged natural array, and forces devoted to Undeath. Jason entered the crisis responsible for people sheltered inside his soul and for allies scattered through the underground realm. His developing spiritual power offered unusual tools, but also raised the prospect that he was moving toward the kind of authority wielded by Astral Kings.

The dimensional rupture forms a transformation zone divided into territories. Every outer territory must be claimed and unified before the central territory can be resolved and physical reality restored. Jason gains an early foothold by shaping a territory after Castleton Beach, but he refuses to let its imprint enslave hundreds of newly awakened messengers. Jali agrees to help these inexperienced people develop identities, while Jason keeps Marek's Unorthodoxy recruitment away from them. Rick and Marek lead a search for scattered allies. Elsewhere, Clive discovers that Undeath priests cannot reach their god's reanimation power across the zone boundary, though living priests can still animate corpses. Belinda infiltrates a hostile messenger group, while Gary and Rufus search together under the protection of Gary's temporary divine strength. Neil and Dustin preserve comatose messengers they cannot properly awaken. They then enter a storm territory and encounter a censored rabbit-like figure near a hidden mesa as Garth claims another territory for Undeath.

The rabbit leads Neil and Dustin to the Lightning Mesa, whose controls reveal a battle among Undeath priests, Brighthearts, and Builder cultists. Neil redirects the territory's lightning against Undeath and compels its army to withdraw. Durham becomes the local Brightheart leader, but control of multiple territories begins distorting judgment. Belinda sabotages her infiltrated messenger group's unification ritual, then escapes with an allied messenger. Humphrey and Taika join her prepared ambush, and together they destroy the wounded gold-rank leader. Rick returns to Jason with more survivors and eleven territories. Destroying crystals in the trunk escalates the defenders until most allied forces must retreat. Gary destroys the strongest replicas, leaving Jason isolated in a soul-based challenge against the tree's Voice of the Will. Instead of forcing a victory, Jason learns that the corrupted tree is a genuine person created by the failed union of a birthing tree, natural array, and incomplete Soul Forge. The tree accepts his offer to preserve its soul. Gary formally rejects survival as a permanently array-bound guardian. Jason then separates the tree, array, and Soul Forge, removes undeath contamination, and rebuilds the Brightheart homeland in ordinary reality. The tree enters his soul realm as a nascent Voice of the Will, while the restored Brighthearts awaken in a viable new city-domain.

He returns concentrated undeath power to its god, gives the Brightheart leadership control of the reconstructed city, and arranges support for its coming diplomacy. The Soul Forge, astral gate, and astral throne begin transforming his soul realm toward an Astral King's domain. Velius and the Keeper of Moments explain that the broken Cosmic Throne once restrained the authority of great astral beings. The Reaper asks Jason to restore it, while the World Phoenix is expected to oppose him. Jason must leave the restored throne neutral, and failure could erase his mind for an immense span. Before beginning, Jason frees the Builder cultists from their starseeds. Boris prepares to take Rufus, Taika, and messenger refugees to Earth. Velius shows Rufus a newborn Leonid named Gary whose soul is a reincarnation of Gareth's, while making clear that the child is a distinct person with no former memories. Rufus accepts the duty not to turn the child into a replacement for his dead friend. Team Biscuit spends two years advancing without Jason. Nick becomes a bronze-rank support adventurer, Neil ends his relationship with Cassandra until she resolves her fixation on Jason, and the team breaks into a Magic Society archive after confronting a director tied to Sophie's exploitation. The Asano clan shelters vampires capable of recovering empathy and control, while Rufus and Boris fight predatory factions. Inside his soul, Jason reaches gold rank after years of deaths and refinement, yet still appears unable to defeat the World Phoenix. After Jason's apparent defeat, the World Phoenix proposes taking control of his soul, but the Builder refuses and leaves. Shade transforms into Jason's independent permanent avatar and rejects the Reaper's claim of ownership while accepting him as a father. The World Phoenix and Reaper continue inward and eventually find a concealed living tree city. Jason is alive there: he hid part of his will inside this nested soul and used the visible battle as cover while restoring the Cosmic Throne. He reveals the plan to his allies, releases the two intruders rather than consuming their power, and prepares to complete his ascent. The tree-city avatar chooses the name Arbor. Jason and Shade enter the castle holding the split throne as the great astral beings assemble. Jason sits, completes the restoration, and activates a System interface for everyone across essence-capable worlds who possesses essences or could gain them. He remains alive and nearing a direct return, with his soul becoming an astral kingdom.

He restores the Cosmic Throne, releases the World Phoenix and Reaper, and completes his ascent to gold rank and Astral King status. Sitting on the throne activates a System interface for everyone who has essences or the potential to obtain them. Jason is alive but has not yet returned directly. Messenger freedom, the Earth-Palimustus link, the Builder's ambitions, Europe's vampire conflict, and a cure for coerced zealots remain unresolved.
