Previously: Jason Asano became separated from his allies after taking control of transformation zones and assuming responsibility for the people sheltered in his domains. His friends continued advancing toward gold rank and dispersed with the intention of reuniting when he returned. The Asano clan remained hidden on Earth, where Rufus Remore supported its survival amid vampire-held territory. Carlos Quilido pursued treatments for severe magical corruption and forced vampirism, while Team Biscuit and its wider circle carried on without Jason. Belinda Callahan taught at the Remore family's adventurer school, and Neil Devone watched over a younger recruit whose broad assignments left him without a permanent team. Jason departed again and remains absent. His allies await his return, but the consequences of his earlier actions have also drawn the attention of many others who want answers from him.

Jason survives restoring the Cosmic Throne, but his true self is now a universe and his mortal body is only an avatar. The restoration imprints him on the throne and creates a System interface for essence-capable people across the cosmos, provoking political upheaval, persecution and violence before he can return home. Wraith explains that he first needs a prime avatar and must rebuild the bridge between worlds. Jason explores his inner universe and visits his grandmother, but his basic avatars cannot leave his territory. He reclaims reality-core power from vampires occupying the former Asano domain in France, destroying their city and arranging help for their blood-farm victims. After reopening the link to Brightheart City, he negotiates limits on his dominion and informs its leader about the sealed messenger world within his realm. Jason still lacks enough power for a prime avatar until Gordon suggests revisiting his former bargain with Death. Because resurrection is no longer possible for him, Death returns the unused reality material. Jason combines it with what he recovered and creates a prime avatar that can finally travel beyond his domains.

Jason uses his realm's control over pain and death to help Carlos Quilido remove corrupting magic from Gibson Amuz. The travelling group continues through the Dragonlands, leaving quickly after Clive enters a restricted magical hall and Zara rejects a prince's coercive attempt to make her his wife. Jason then reaches Greenstone in secret with Belinda Callahan and Estella Warnock. Before the public arrival, he revisits the abandoned waystation where he was tortured as an iron ranker. He acknowledges how the ordeal shaped his identity and recovery, while Greenstone's Adventure Society prepares nervously for the disruptive return of a far more powerful Jason.

He names the refuge for Boko's people New Water and removes the former duke from authority there, asking the gods to help establish resident choice and governance without inherited titles. Jason also promises to take greater responsibility for Nick, who is his living creation and regards him as a father. On Earth, an international delegation enters the restored Asano territory. Jason explains the transformation zones, the clan's vampire rescues and the danger his eventual return may create. In Syrian, the group gathers stranded Earth expatriates. Diamond ranker Vandrick Maccaro treats this as Jason's single major intervention as a new immortal but warns that other immortals will not support further interference in mortal disputes. Belinda abducts the negotiating nobles and places them in Sadi Andali's slave markets, forcing their families into rescue operations and helping secure the Earthlings' release. The expedition leaves with dozens of returnees and continues its pickup route. At a mountain city, Storm Spire Drakes attack the skyport. Team Biscuit, Koa, Daryl, Nick and local adventurers coordinate through Jason's System tools, eliminate the silver-rank swarm and preserve the local gold-rank defenders' control of their own battle.

The last Earth returnees gather on a Storm Kingdom island containing infrastructure that can anchor a dimensional bridge. Zara Noreen resumes her royal identity as Princess Zara Rimaros and begins planning a gradual domestic campaign against indenture. Clive activates the bridge, although it will take about a decade to stabilize for routine travel. Jason's cloud ship follows it through the deep astral with the expatriates, Team Biscuit, researchers, clergy and a Storm Kingdom delegation. On Earth, Jason offers sane vampires resettlement on a safely eclipsed world and prepares to destroy those beyond recovery. American officials warn him that several governments have invited Jakar pirates to eliminate him. Jason then admits that he used a cosmic favor to permit gold-rank outsiders into Earth, deliberately creating a manageable enemy that might unite local factions and demonstrate that he cannot be controlled. Annabeth Tilden condemns his failure to consult the advisers he recruited, and Jason accepts the need for a formal organization around his power. Ahead of his arrival, Annabeth, Rufus Remore, Taika and a young Leonid specialist enter the fortified Australian standing-stone site and begin direct negotiations with its leadership.

Pirate captain Jota Withers discovers that his local sponsors have understated Jason's power and that Kriegel is organizing a mutiny. When Jason reaches Artifact City, Jota and Natala disclose the split and withdraw from the fight, while Kriegel leads twenty-three gold-rank pirates against Jason. Jason initially fights alone, spreading darkness, shadow doubles, draining effects and aura suppression across the pirate force. Once the attackers pin him with a harpoon, Team Biscuit and Farrah enter the battle. Belinda pulls the pirates together, the team exploits Jason's accumulated afflictions and the mutineers collapse. Jason abandons the planned execution, deciding that the public victory has made his point and that he does not want to repeat the person he was when he left Earth. The team captures the fleeing dimension ship. One pirate dies after apparently trying to remove Jason's afflictions, but the survivors enter imprisonment in his soul realm. Jason claims the ship from Earth authorities and recruits Gary Sharpton to help examine it. Jota and Natala remain available for questioning, while the attack's Earth sponsors are still unknown. Jason delegates the aftermath and leaves through Shade to reunite with Emmy.

One pirate dies after apparently trying to purge Jason's afflictions, but the others are imprisoned in Jason's soul realm. Jason claims their dimension ship, brings Gary Sharpton into the effort to examine it and leaves Jota and Natala available for questioning. Jason then departs to see Emmy. The pirate assault is over, but its Earth sponsors and the wider Jakar threat remain open. New Water still shelters Boko's survivors, the messenger conflict and vampire crisis continue, the inter-world bridge needs years to stabilize, and Jason's advisers must turn his immense personal power into a workable relationship with Earth.
