Jack Gerling, a powerful US Network operative, pursues Jason's secrets and expects hostility over the deaths of Kaito, Asya, and Greg. Chinese Network gold-rankers and Gerling enter under dimensional shields, forcing Jason to enlist them against an anomaly horde before ordering them out. One gold-ranker ignores Jason's warning and uses unstable cores, transforming into a powerful vampire-like anomaly. Jason spends a rare anti-vampire crystal to kill him. Jason then allows the survivors to claim the fallen fighter's remains and anomaly cores after they agree not to pursue him immediately.

Meanwhile, Gerling abducts Adrien Barbou for the ritual knowledge needed to enter the same astral space.
