Heartsong characters
By TJ Klune
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Robbie Fontaine (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A young wolf living in Caswell, Maine, in the service of the alpha of all. He is warm, talkative and eager to be useful, and he believes he has always been where he is. He also has a hole in his life where several years should be: he cannot account for the gap, he dreams of trees and a house he has never seen, and the explanations he is given do not quite fit together.
Michelle Hughes (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The alpha of all wolves, who governs from Caswell and to whom Robbie answers. She is composed, political and careful with what she says, and she treats Robbie with a kindness that has conditions attached to it.
Robert Livingstone
First appears in chapter 3
A witch of enormous power who has taken alpha magic into himself, something no witch is supposed to be able to hold. He is present in Caswell and is treated there as an asset rather than a threat. He is also the father of Gordo Livingstone, the Bennett pack's witch.
Kelly Bennett (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 8
A Bennett wolf out of Green Creek, Oregon, who insists that Robbie knows him and that Robbie belongs to his pack. He is stubborn, unsparing and visibly wrecked by being unrecognized, and Robbie's wolf responds to him in ways Robbie cannot explain.
Gavin (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 11
A wolf who never takes human form. He turns up on the edges of the story, will not be driven off, and is drawn in particular to Carter Bennett. Where he came from, and why he stays a wolf, is not clear at first.
Ox Matheson (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
One of the two alphas of the Bennett pack in Green Creek. Quiet and unhurried, he judges people by what they do rather than by what has been done to them, which matters a great deal to a wolf coming back with holes in his head.
Joe Bennett (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
Alpha of the Bennett pack alongside his mate Ox, and the youngest of the Bennett brothers. He carries his father's power and a hard-earned wariness of the wolf leadership in Caswell.
Gordo Livingstone (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
The Bennett pack's witch, whose magic lives in his tattoos, and the son of Robert Livingstone. He is blunt to the point of cruelty and more protective than he will admit, and his father's crimes are the frame he sees most of the world through.
Mark Bennett (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
Brother of the late Bennett alpha and Gordo's mate, steady and watchful, one of the pack's most reliable fighters.
Carter Bennett (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
The eldest Bennett brother, loud, funny and restless, who covers a good deal of worry with noise. He has become unusually attentive to the strange wolf circling the pack.
Elizabeth Bennett (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
Widow of the Bennett alpha and mother of Carter, Kelly and Joe, who makes room in her house for people who have nowhere else to be.
Jessie (Minor)
First appears in chapter 15
A human member of the Bennett pack who has trained herself to fight alongside wolves rather than be sheltered by them.
