Grediv (Supporting)

A counselor who supports Tala and Rain individually and together as they process Gert's death and their shared grief.

Ingrit (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A senior liaison and inscription specialist who supplies the preserved likeness and aura record used for the memorial to Gert and his wife. Her access to these records helps Rain create a tribute that represents the couple together.

Jevin (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

An experienced, exceptionally old figure with ties to the forest in the south. Whether he has advanced again remains unconfirmed, and Tala and Rain hope his perspective can aid their reforging plans.

Lisa (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

A craft specialist whom Rain consulted while developing his four-dimensional kinetic sculpture.

Lynn (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 10

The practical administrator of Tala's growing hold and her trusted representative in trade and settlement matters. Lynn handles Mia Lane's arrival, coordinates the community's everyday needs, and translates Tala's larger decisions into workable arrangements.

Talon leader (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 10

The Talons' field leader, tasked with bringing Mia Lane to the force when Tala assigns her to oversee its training.

Trent (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 23

An Archon associated with the tree city and a former student of Jevin. Trent has made little progress for years, and Jevin deliberately places him beside Tala and Rain in hopes that their example will return him to active work.

Rain's alternate interface (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 26

Rain's separate alternate interface, which concentrates on archival advancement research and automated work. Its partnership with Rain is less conversational than Tala and Alat's relationship but remains independently useful.

Nalac (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 28

Tala's brother and a participant in the family reunion at the tree city.

Newly manifested girl (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 42

A newly manifested girl with a human soul in a former hostile automaton body. Alat and Rain's alternate interface create a provisional soul housing for her, and Tala and Rain meet her when she asks whether they are her parents.

Leah (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 43

A newly manifested girl whose human, gated soul inhabits a provisional construct body. Tala and Rain recognize her as their daughter, but her improvised soul housing requires expert assessment before she can safely enter wider society.

Boma (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 46

A high-level construction specialist assigned to perform a thorough examination of Leah.

Jenna (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 47

The city's prime defender. In a private meeting with Tala, Jenna proposes destroying Leah's automaton body.

Holly (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 50

An inscription specialist who develops a demanding theoretical schema for Tala's intended reforge. Holly's design offers a foundation, but its danger means Tala must understand and reshape it rather than simply copy it.

Elnia (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 53

The stoneholder of Banfast, who meets Leah with civility and listens to the girl's account of her unusual physical form. Elnia joins Jenna in warning Tala that an endlessly expanding reforge plan may become impossible to complete.

Renix (Minor)

First appears in chapter 58

An Archon connected to caravan life. Renix helps guide Trent's former apprentice toward advancement while receiving advancement guidance from Trent.

Tai (Minor)

First appears in chapter 58

A caravan defender remembered for holding back a creature wave so the caravan could survive. Tai died four years before Tala learns his fate and was the defense's only casualty. His final action preserved the people traveling under his protection.

Captain Ron (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 63

The Talons' captain and field leader. Ron restores sparring to their training, arranges countermagic instruction, and emphasizes tactics that preserve the unit and accomplish its mission. He works with Mia Lane while retaining responsibility for the force.

Aram (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 69

A weapon craftsperson who assesses the unusual capabilities of Tala's soul-bound blade. Aram accepts the commission for a resilient sparring sheath, provided Tala keeps the weapon's ending power dormant while it is enclosed.

Black automaton (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 70

A hostile black construct that attacks a Defender patrol while trying to reach Leah. It repairs itself, resists Tala's direct control, and proves dangerous enough to gravely injure a Defender. Its purpose and the scale of the threat behind it are initially unknown.

Black Legion scout (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 71

The black automaton is identified after its defeat as a scout-class member of the Black Legion. It sought to reclaim Leah, then destroyed itself when escape failed, turning a local attack into evidence of a potentially wider threat.

Black Legion prime commander (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 72

A concealed commander who receives the dead scout's report. The commander treats the encounter near Leah as a useful lead and directs a force committed to eliminating magic from existence. The transmitted path offers that force a distant route toward the dome.
