Unknown to Earth, a hidden Kristang ship near the Solar System has begun reviving its mercenary crew far ahead of schedule after an act of sabotage, setting rival factions aboard against each other even as they turn their attention toward seizing Earth's Elder AI for themselves. As political disputes over the earlier renegade mission's fallout continue to strain relations between Bishop's crew and military authorities, the hidden threat draws steadily closer to striking at Earth directly.
