How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse characters
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The small and unimpressive heir of the Hairy Hooligan tribe on Berk, who can speak Dragonese and still tells almost nobody. He is a poor fighter and an indifferent Viking by his tribe's standards, and is generally the person who notices what everyone else has missed.
Toothless (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Hiccup's dragon: tiny, toothless, greedy and entirely disobedient, with a talent for making a bad situation worse and a habit of explaining, in Dragonese, why none of it is his fault.
Fishlegs (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Hiccup's oldest friend: skinny, short-sighted, allergic to reptiles and reliably pessimistic. He has been at the bottom of the class alongside Hiccup since the initiation programme.
Camicazi (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
The Bog-Burglar girl Hiccup and Fishlegs met while imprisoned by the Romans: very small, very blonde, an exceptional thief and lock-picker, and not deterred by an errand everyone else considers impossible.
Stoick the Vast (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Chief of the Hairy Hooligans and Hiccup's father, huge, loud and inclined to meet a problem head on.
Gobber the Belch (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The Hooligans' enormous instructor and drill-master, a fixture of tribe life on Berk.
Snotface Snotlout (Antagonist)
Also known as Snotlout
Appears from the start
Hiccup's cousin and rival, strong, loud and contemptuous of him.
Old Wrinkly (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 3
Hiccup's grandfather and the tribe's elderly soothsayer, whose knowledge of old lore and older stories is what turns a hopeless case into a journey with a destination.
the Venomous Vorpent (Minor)
First appears in chapter 3
A small dragon whose bite carries a poison that brings on Vorpentitis, an illness the Hooligans have no treatment for and which kills to a predictable timetable.
Norbert the Nutjob (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 4
Chief of the Hysterics, the least hospitable tribe in the archipelago. He carries a battleaxe and swings without warning between polite conversation and homicidal rage, and his tribe's usual policy towards visitors is to kill them.
the Doomfang (Minor)
First appears in chapter 4
An enormous sea dragon that patrols the waters around the Hysterics' island, and a large part of the reason nobody goes there.
Bigfoot Bjornsson (Minor)
First appears in chapter 10
Norbert's father, who sailed west beyond the known seas and came back with the strange vegetable the Hysterics have kept as a treasure ever since.
