How to Ride a Dragon's Storm characters

By Cressida Cowell

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

The undersized heir of the Hairy Hooligans, a thoughtful boy in a world that admires noise and muscle. Hiccup speaks Dragonese, keeps that gift mostly secret and has learned that helping a frightened dragon can matter more than commanding it.

Toothless (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Hiccup's tiny Common or Garden dragon, greedy, stubborn and usually unwilling to do anything simply because Hiccup asks.

Fishlegs (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Hiccup's oldest friend, short-sighted, anxious and allergic to reptiles. Fishlegs dislikes both cold water and reckless plans but will not leave his friends to face either alone.

Camicazi (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A young Bog-Burglar, expert thief and fearless companion to Hiccup and Fishlegs. Camicazi approaches a dangerous race with much more enthusiasm than either boy.

Stoick the Vast (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Chief of the Hairy Hooligans and Hiccup's father, enormous, proud and certain that a Viking competition should be settled by strength.

Big-Boobied Bertha (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Chief of the Bog-Burglars and Camicazi's mother, a powerful leader who enters tribal contests with complete confidence in her side.

Madguts the Murderous (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

Chief of the Murderous Tribe and one of the dangerous adults involved in the inter-tribal swimming contest.

Norbert the Nutjob (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 7

Chief of the Hysterics and an old enemy of Hiccup. Norbert can change from friendly talk to murderous anger without warning and has not forgotten the potato stolen from his tribe.

the Windwalker (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

A badly frightened flying dragon that Hiccup meets during the voyage. The Windwalker has strength and speed hidden beneath its fear, and Hiccup refuses to treat it as useless simply because it cannot yet fly when ordered.

Snotface Snotlout (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

Hiccup's boastful cousin and rival, strong in the sort of public Viking competition that makes Hiccup look weakest.
