Eragon's blue dragon and partner, mighty in battle and fiercely proud, one of the last free dragons in the world. She carries Eragon into war, shares his every thought, and understands that the survival of dragonkind itself may rest on how the coming struggle ends.

Eragon's cousin, now a bold and resourceful captain in the Varden, married to Katrina. Fighting with a hammer and a sharp tactical mind, he wins hard victories for the rebellion and is prepared to risk everything for his family and the cause.

Roran's wife, rescued from the Empire's servants, steadfast and courageous as she follows the Varden's war and awaits the child she and Roran are expecting.

Eragon's estranged kin, a Rider of the red dragon Thorn, enslaved to the king by binding oaths. Powerful, resentful, and trapped, he serves the Empire against his will and stands as one of the last great obstacles between the Varden and victory.
Orik (Minor)
Appears from the start
Eragon's dwarf friend, now king of his people, bringing the dwarves' strength to the alliance. Loyal and steadfast, he leads his nation into the decisive stage of the war against the Empire.
Galbatorix (Antagonist)
Appears from the start
The tyrant king of the Empire, an ancient renegade Dragon Rider of overwhelming sorcerous power hoarded over generations. The final enemy of the cycle, he rules from his fortress capital through fear, enslaved servants, and unbreakable oaths, and confronting him is the last and gravest task the Varden face.
