Komarr

By Lois McMaster Bujold

Komarr, the twelfth installment in the Vorkosigan Saga by internal chronology, opens after a collision cripples Komarr's orbital mirror system, threatening the planet's terraforming and reigniting tension between Komarr and its Barrayaran rulers. Newly appointed Imperial Auditor Miles Vorkosigan arrives to investigate alongside a senior colleague, staying as a guest of a Barrayaran administrator and his wife, Ekaterin, whose household is quietly strained by an undisclosed family illness. As Miles digs into the wreckage, he uncovers troubling anomalies in the collision's cause and a missing engineer and technician whose disappearance seems more than coincidental, all while growing closer to Ekaterin. When a previously unaccounted-for body turns up among the wreckage, the investigation shifts from a freak accident toward something far more deliberate.
