Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Kelsier (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A famous skaa thief known as the Survivor of Hathsin, the only prisoner believed to have escaped the Lord Ruler's lethal mines. The scars covering his arms testify to that imprisonment. Charismatic, irreverent toward noble authority, and extraordinarily skilled with Allomancy, he has returned to the capital intending to end the Final Empire.
Vin (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A wary teenage thief in Camon's crew who has survived abuse by making herself inconspicuous. She believes her brother Reen abandoned her but lives by his lessons about betrayal. What she calls Luck is actually an unusual ability to influence people, and Kelsier recognizes that her power is much greater than she knows.
The Lord Ruler (Antagonist)
Appears from the start
The immortal ruler and living god of the Final Empire, whose victory over the Deepness a thousand years earlier is the foundation of the state religion. He governs from Kredik Shaw through noble houses, obligators, and Steel Inquisitors while the skaa labor under his law.
Dockson (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
Kelsier's closest friend and organizer, a skaa who lacks Allomantic powers but knows Luthadel's criminal networks and handles the practical side of the crew's operations. Steady and skeptical, he balances Kelsier's appetite for dramatic risks.
Breeze (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 4
A refined member of Kelsier's crew and a Soother, able to dampen selected emotions. He uses polished manners and calculated indolence as tools, specializing in manipulation, recruitment, and negotiation.
Hammond (Supporting)
Also known as Ham
First appears in chapter 4
A Thug who burns pewter for enhanced strength and endurance. Despite his work as the crew's fighter and trainer, he is genial and habitually turns discussions toward moral and political questions.
Clubs (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
A gruff skaa Smoker who leads a shop of apprentices and can hide nearby Allomancy from detection. He distrusts Kelsier's grand promises but provides the crew with a secure base and trains Vin in controlling copper.
Lestibournes (Supporting)
Also known as Spook
First appears in chapter 5
Clubs's teenage nephew and a Tineye, able to sharpen his senses by burning tin. Shy around Vin and difficult to understand because of his heavy street slang, he serves as a lookout and runner for the crew.
Marsh (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 6
Kelsier's older brother, a stern former rebel who once opposed the Final Empire more openly than Kelsier did. Unlike his brother, he has no Allomantic powers, and the losses surrounding Kelsier's earlier schemes have left a deep division between them.
Sazed (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 8
A Terrisman steward assigned to help Vin enter noble society under an assumed identity. Patient, observant, and trained in languages, history, and etiquette, he also quietly preserves religions erased during the Lord Ruler's conquest.
Lord Renoux (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 7
A minor nobleman lending his name and appearance to the crew's plan. Presented to society as Valette Renoux's uncle, he operates from a country mansion that serves as cover for training and supply work.
Elend Venture (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 12
The idealistic heir of House Venture, Luthadel's most powerful noble family. Vin first finds him reading alone at a ball rather than courting influence. His blunt manner conceals a serious interest in forbidden political ideas and dissatisfaction with the nobility's rule.
Shan Elariel (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 13
A sharp and socially formidable noblewoman allied with House Venture. She quickly identifies Vin's Valette persona as a possible rival for Elend's attention and treats the newcomer with controlled hostility.
Yeden (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 4
A skaa rebel leader whose movement gives Kelsier's plan its political cause and initial manpower. He wants a real uprising but is uneasy about trusting thieves and Allomancers with the future of his followers.
