Never Fade characters

By Alexandra Bracken

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Ruby Daly (Protagonist)

Also known as Ruby Elizabeth Daly

Appears from the start

Now an agent of the Children's League, months after trading herself to them. She has been trained, given a codename and a team of her own, and used repeatedly for the one thing only an Orange can do: walking into a mind and rearranging it. Her control has improved enormously, which frightens her more than her old clumsiness did, and the other agents give her a wide berth. She has not tried to find the people she left behind, and tells herself that was the point.

Vida (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Blue on Ruby's League team: blunt to the point of cruelty, physically fearless, and openly resentful that a younger agent was put in charge of her. She is a better soldier than anyone else on the team and does not pretend otherwise.

Jude (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The youngest member of Ruby's team, a Yellow who cannot stop talking, takes apart and rebuilds anything mechanical, and wants very badly to be useful. He is the only person at the League who treats Ruby as a person rather than an instrument.

Liam Stewart (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The Blue who drove Ruby across the country and who no longer remembers a day of it. Ruby took herself out of his memory to keep him from being caught looking for her, and as far as she knows he is somewhere safe, living an ordinary life without her in it.

Chubs (Supporting)

Also known as Charles Carrington Meriwether IV

Appears from the start

The Green who travelled with Ruby and Liam and who was shot escaping East River. Ruby handed herself to the League to get him treated and has no idea what became of him afterward.

President Gray (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

The president of the United States, whose administration built the camps and whose grip on power has only tightened as the country falls further apart.

Cate (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

The agent who got Ruby out of Thurmond, and the closest thing she has to a guardian inside the Children's League. Her insistence that the children under her care are children has cost her standing with the League's leadership.

Alban (Minor)

First appears in chapter 3

The head of the Children's League. He speaks about liberating the camps and about acceptable losses in the same breath, and he decides which of his young agents are spent on which operations.

Cole Stewart (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 17

A League agent several years older than the others, quick, funny and reckless, who takes an interest in Ruby that nobody else at the League does. He is Liam's older brother, and he was already grown when the disease came, so he came through it untouched.

Nico (Minor)

First appears in chapter 6

A Green who keeps the League's computers and equipment running. Quiet, precise and easy to overlook, he is one of the few people at headquarters who volunteered rather than being collected.

Clancy Gray (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 23

The president's son and the Orange who ran East River, now in the Children's League's hands. He is a prisoner and behaves like a guest, and he still knows more about his mother's research into the disease than anyone else alive.
