A young Accepted of the White Tower, close to being raised to full Aes Sedai. Of high Cairhienin noble blood and a niece of Cairhien's king, she is small, composed, quick-witted, and unusually strong in the One Power. Reserved and disciplined, she keeps her royal connections at arm's length and is devoted to her studies and to her closest friend, Siuan.

An Accepted of the White Tower and Moiraine's closest friend, a fisherman's daughter from the poor quarter of Tear with a blunt tongue, a quick mind, and one of the strongest gifts for the One Power seen in generations. Ambitious and shrewd, she is as fierce in argument as she is loyal in friendship, and as eager as Moiraine to earn the shawl of an Aes Sedai.

The uncrowned king of Malkier, a northern realm swallowed by the Blight when he was an infant, raised by his people's survivors to a life of endless war against the Shadow. A peerless swordsman still young in years, grim, honorable, and expecting to die fighting in the Blight, he travels the Borderlands with an old shield-companion, bound by oaths older than himself.

The Amyrlin Seat, head of the Aes Sedai and ruler of the White Tower, a shrewd and formidable woman guiding the Tower through the upheaval of the Aiel War. Watchful and careful with her secrets, she wields the authority of her office with a firm and practiced hand.

An elderly Aes Sedai and trusted adviser to the Amyrlin, gifted with Foretelling, the rare and uncontrollable ability to speak true prophecy. Frail with age, she has spent her long life close to the seat of the Tower's power.

The White Tower's Mistress of Novices, a calm, motherly Aes Sedai responsible for the discipline and welfare of novices and Accepted. Experienced and unruffled, she is a fixture of Tower life whose steady manner reassures the young women in her charge.

A famous and fearsome Aes Sedai of great reputation and long experience, blunt, imperious, and impossible to overawe. Already a legend among the sisters, she takes a sharp interest in the affairs of others and in the young women she encounters.

A grizzled Malkieri warrior and Lan's longtime shield-companion, one of the survivors who helped raise him after their homeland fell to the Blight. Loyal and hard-bitten, he keeps to the old customs and oaths of dead Malkier.
