Passage to Dawn characters

By R.A. Salvatore

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Drizzt Do'Urden (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A dark elf ranger who has spent six years sailing with Captain Deudermont and fighting pirates along the Sword Coast. The distance from Mithral Hall has given him room to live beyond Menzoberranzan's shadow, though memories of friends he could not save still shape his choices.

Catti-brie (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Bruenor's adopted daughter, a formidable archer and Drizzt's partner aboard the Sea Sprite. She has built a life with him since the defense of Mithral Hall while continuing to carry Wulfgar's memory and the unanswered grief surrounding his apparent death.

Captain Deudermont (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The principled captain of the Sea Sprite, known along the Sword Coast for hunting pirates rather than joining them. He judges crew members by discipline and conduct, which earned Drizzt and Catti-brie a place on his ship long before most ports trusted them.

Robillard (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The Sea Sprite's capable and irritable wizard. Robillard protects the vessel with battle magic and professional vigilance, and he treats every unusual passenger or supernatural disturbance as a problem that should be understood before it reaches the deck.

Guenhwyvar (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Drizzt's intelligent black panther companion, summoned through an onyx figurine from another plane. Guenhwyvar remains a link between the ranger's years of exile, his adopted family and the life he has made at sea.

Bruenor Battlehammer (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

The dwarf king of Mithral Hall and the center of the family Drizzt found on the surface. Six years after the drow siege, he has a secure kingdom, but the loss of Wulfgar and the long absence of Drizzt and Catti-brie still mark his household.

Regis (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

A halfling companion of Drizzt and Bruenor who has enjoyed the prosperous years after the siege. He prefers negotiation and a comfortable chair to open battle, but old loyalty brings him back when the companions reform for another journey north.

Harkle Harpell (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

An eccentric wizard of the Harpell family and a long-standing friend of the companions. Harkle combines genuine power with experimental methods, making him valuable for a journey that requires magical travel and answers to supernatural clues.

Errtu (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 3

A powerful balor whom Drizzt drove from the mortal world during the struggle against the Crystal Shard. Errtu has returned with a personal hatred of the ranger and uses hidden knowledge, servants and carefully chosen promises to draw the companions where he wants them.

Wulfgar (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 25

The barbarian warrior the companions believed killed beneath Mithral Hall six years earlier. The collapse cast him into Errtu's reach instead, and he has survived years of demonic imprisonment and torment. His rescue restores a friend to the company, but not the unscarred man they remember.
