Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Chalice of the Gods recap

In the first five books of the series, twelve-year-old Percy Jackson discovers that he is a demigod, the son of the sea god Poseidon, and finds refuge at Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for children of the Greek gods. Over five summers he takes on a string of dangerous quests: he recovers Zeus's stolen master lightning bolt and clears his own name; he retrieves the Golden Fleece to heal the camp's poisoned boundary; he helps rescue the goddess Artemis and his friend Annabeth and gains new allies and losses along the way; and he ventures into the deadly Labyrinth as an ancient enemy stirs. Throughout, the Titan lord Kronos works to rise again by possessing the embittered demigod Luke Castellan and raising an army against Olympus. In the final book Percy leads the young demigods in the desperate battle for New York, a great prophecy is fulfilled, Luke sacrifices himself to destroy Kronos, and the gods offer Percy immortality, which he refuses. Alongside his closest companions, the daughter of Athena Annabeth Chase and the satyr Grover Underwood, Percy has since grown into a seasoned hero, older now and facing more ordinary worries about his future.

Percy Jackson, now a seventeen-year-old high-school senior, wants nothing more than a normal future: to graduate and attend New Rome University with his girlfriend, Annabeth Chase. But he learns that admission requires three letters of recommendation from the gods, which means doing the Olympians' bidding once more. His first opportunity arrives when Ganymede, the cupbearer of the gods, secretly comes to him in a panic: the sacred chalice he serves the gods from has gone missing, and if the other Olympians find out, the consequences could be dire. To earn his first recommendation letter, Percy agrees to recover the lost cup quietly, and he sets out on the search with Annabeth and his old friend Grover Underwood, hoping this quest proves simpler than the world-ending ones of his past.
