Prince Caspian characters
By C.S. Lewis
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Aslan (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The Lion of Narnia, known to the reader from the earlier book: the country's maker and true king, who comes and goes as he chooses and is not at anyone's command. At the opening of this story he has not been seen in Narnia for a very long time, and most of its people no longer believe he was ever real.
Peter Pevensie (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The eldest of the four children and once High King of Narnia. Back in England he is an ordinary schoolboy again, but he takes responsibility as a matter of course, and expects to be obeyed when a decision has to be made quickly.
Susan Pevensie (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The elder sister, once Queen Susan of Narnia and a formidable archer. Sensible and comfort-loving, she is the one who argues for the safe and reasonable course, and she is slower than the others to trust anything that cannot be seen plainly.
Edmund Pevensie (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The younger brother, once King Edmund of Narnia. Quiet, observant and steady, he has learned from being badly wrong once before and is quick to back his sister Lucy when the others will not.
Lucy Pevensie (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The youngest of the four and once Queen Lucy of Narnia. She is the readiest of them to believe in Narnia and the most delighted to be back, and she notices things the others miss, which is not always comfortable for anyone.
Trumpkin (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 3
A Red Dwarf of Old Narnia, found bound and about to be drowned by soldiers. Tough, dry and disbelieving by temperament, he calls himself a sceptic about lions and magic while serving his king loyally and going wherever he is sent. He is a good shot, a good swordsman and a good storyteller.
Prince Caspian (Protagonist)
First appears in chapter 4
The young heir of the Telmarine line, brought up in his uncle's castle and taught by his nurse that the old Narnia of Talking Beasts and dryads was real. He is eager, well-meaning and largely untested, and he loves the stories his tutor and his nurse tell him more than the court he lives in.
Doctor Cornelius (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 4
Caspian's tutor, a small stout scholar who turns out to be partly of dwarf blood and to have kept the old learning alive in secret. He teaches Caspian real Narnian history at night on the castle roof and takes considerable risks to protect him.
King Miraz (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 4
Caspian's uncle, who governs Telmarine Narnia as Lord Protector and then as king. Cold, capable and thorough, he has stamped out talk of Old Narnia, keeps the woods and the sea feared and unvisited, and disposes quietly of anyone in his way.
Trufflehunter (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
A Talking Badger of Old Narnia, one of the creatures living hidden in the woods. Slow, obstinate and long-memoried, he insists that badgers do not forget and that a son of Adam belongs on Narnia's throne, and he is the first to argue for accepting Caspian.
Nikabrik (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
A Black Dwarf living in hiding with Trufflehunter and Trumpkin, bitter about what the Telmarines have done to his people and suspicious of every human alive. Finding a Telmarine boy asleep in his cave, his first proposal is to kill him rather than risk trusting him.
Reepicheep (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 6
A Talking Mouse about a foot high, immaculately courteous, ferociously brave and touchy about his honour and his size. He leads a company of mice and is among the first of the Old Narnians to offer Caspian his sword.
Glenstorm (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 6
A centaur, a prophet and a star-gazer, who reads the coming war in the movements of the planets and brings his sons to Caspian's muster. Grave and formal, he is the most impressive of the Old Narnians to declare for the prince.
Lord Glozelle (Minor)
First appears in chapter 13
A Telmarine lord of Miraz's council, watchful and careful never to say what he thinks in the open. He has been ill-used by the king and remembers it.
