Rage of a Demon King characters
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Erik von Darkmoor (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A former Ravensburg blacksmith and veteran of Calis's Novindus expedition, now a trusted officer preparing the Kingdom for invasion. Erik combines a soldier's endurance with a craftsman's understanding of horses, equipment, and fortifications, and he remains most effective when plans have broken down.
Rupert Avery (Protagonist)
Also known as Roo
Appears from the start
One of Krondor's new merchant princes and Erik's oldest friend. Roo has turned information, credit, and audacity into a fortune, but the threatened invasion converts his warehouses, ships, and financial network from private success into essential parts of the Kingdom's defence.
Duke James (Supporting)
Also known as Jimmy the Hand
Appears from the start
The elderly Duke of Krondor, once a street thief and royal squire, now the city's shrewdest administrator. James has spent a lifetime surviving wars and intrigues and believes Calis's warning when many nobles still hope the invasion can be contained elsewhere.
Prince Patrick (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Prince of Krondor and the royal commander responsible for the Western Realm. Patrick must balance the capital's political expectations against James's harsher strategic judgment as the Emerald Queen's fleet approaches.
William (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Pug's son and the Knight-Marshal of Krondor, a career soldier without his father's magical gifts. William commands the city's defenders and understands that their task may be to preserve the Kingdom's army rather than the city itself.
Pug (Protagonist)
First appears in chapter 2
The former orphan of Crydee who became a Great One on Kelewan. Pug is now an elder magician whose experience with rifts, the Valheru, and other worlds makes him one of the few people able to investigate what lies behind the Pantathians' invasion.
Miranda (Protagonist)
First appears in chapter 2
A powerful, independent magician who rescued Pug during his investigation of the demon realm. Miranda knows more about interworld dangers than she initially shares and works beside Pug while keeping her family history and long-term purpose private.
Calis (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
Tomas and Aglaranna's son, a commander whose human and elven blood also carries the Valheru legacy inherited through his father. Years spent tracking the Emerald Queen have made Calis a specialist in an enemy whose military and supernatural aims cannot be separated.
Tomas (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
Once a kitchen boy at Crydee, Tomas bears the power and memories of the Valheru Ashen-Shugar while retaining his human identity. He rules Elvandar with Queen Aglaranna and has become an elder guardian whose ancient inheritance may be needed again.
Nakor (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
An Isalani gambler whose jokes and denials of magic conceal a rare understanding of how reality can be manipulated. Nakor assists Pug and Miranda because he recognises that the invasion's deepest danger is not the army visible from the coast.
Jakan (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 6
A senior Pantathian serpent priest working within the Emerald Queen's cause. Jakan treats conquest as the means to a religious and magical end, and his command of rites linking worlds makes him more dangerous than his place in the army's formal hierarchy suggests.
The Emerald Queen (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 8
The woman in whose name Novindus was conquered and the invasion fleet assembled. To her followers she is a sacred queen tied to the Pantathians' lost goddess; to the Kingdom she remains a remote figure whose personal will cannot yet be separated from the priests and powers surrounding her.
Fadawah (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 11
The strategist who forged the Emerald Queen's conquered peoples into an effective invasion force. Fadawah is an experienced human general who values logistics and flexible command over religious zeal, making him capable of continuing a campaign even when its supernatural leadership changes.
Duko (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 15
One of Fadawah's senior field commanders, a disciplined professional charged with taking and holding ground in the Kingdom. Duko's loyalty is to his soldiers and to competent command more than to the Emerald Queen's religion.
