Appears from the start

A cytonic pilot of the UrDail, returning to her homeworld of ReDawn after being shot down over the human planet Detritus and spending months unconscious among strangers. She left to find allies against the Superiority and comes back to find that her own people are much further down the road to surrendering to it than when she went. Sharp-tongued, impatient with committees, and carrying the guilt of having been absent while the argument was lost.

A young UrDail who moves in the same circles as Alanik and has known her a long time. He is attentive, well connected and quick to offer help with the problem of Rinakin, and he presents himself as sympathetic to the independence faction.

First appears in chapter 3

The UrDail leader Alanik follows, the most prominent voice arguing that ReDawn should stay out of the Superiority and take its chances alone. He was the one who encouraged Alanik's search for outside allies. By the time she returns he has been taken by the faction that wants ReDawn inside the Superiority, and his supporters are scattered.

Flightleader of Skyward Flight, a human cytonic, and the person on Detritus who has spent the most time in Alanik's head. Formal to a fault, weighed down by responsibilities the DDF never meant a pilot of his rank to carry, and prepared to commit his flight to somebody else's planet on the strength of an argument he believes.

A human pilot of Skyward Flight, level-headed and openly sceptical of governments that decide things for people without telling them, which turns out to be a useful instinct on ReDawn.
