Rogue World

By B. V. Larson

The seventh entry in the series finds legionnaire James McGill searching for a way to pay for his mother's costly treatment after a Dust World illness leaves her gravely ill and outside standard Hegemony coverage. When two officers separately press him to refuse an upcoming mission for the senior officer Drusus in exchange for his mother's care, McGill secretly records one officer's coercive offer to use as leverage, while quietly arranging a fallback means of preserving his parents through Legion technology. The mission itself turns out to require him to spy alone on an approaching alien fleet investigating humanity's recent territorial gains, an assignment that leaves McGill waking with no memory of what happened and facing serious consequences for an incident he cannot recall.
