Servant of the Shard characters

By R.A. Salvatore

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Artemis Entreri (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A calculating assassin who has spent years measuring himself against Drizzt Do'Urden. Back in Calimport, he serves as the visible power behind the Basadoni guild while watching Jarlaxle fall under the influence of the Crystal Shard. His concern is practical at first: the artifact is making his partner reckless and threatening everything they control.

Jarlaxle (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

The flamboyant dark elf leader of Bregan D'aerthe and Entreri's partner in the Calimport underworld. He believes his experience, magical protections and force of will will let him use Crenshinibon without sharing the fate of its earlier masters.

Crenshinibon (Antagonist)

Also known as The Crystal Shard

Appears from the start

A sentient magical relic recovered from the demon Errtu and stolen by Jarlaxle. Crenshinibon magnifies its bearer's ambitions, creates crystal towers and servants, and presents domination as proof that the bearer remains in control.

Sharlotta Vespers (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A human lieutenant in the Basadoni organization who understands both Calimport's criminal customs and the danger of disappointing its new rulers. Sharlotta works closely with Entreri while trying to keep the guild functioning amid Jarlaxle's increasingly disruptive plans.

Dwahvel Tiggerwillies (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

A halfling guild leader and longtime acquaintance of Entreri whose influence rests on information, favors and a realistic reading of Calimport's shifting alliances. She recognizes that Bregan D'aerthe's control of the city cannot remain invisible once Jarlaxle begins using the shard openly.

Rai-guy Bondalek (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 5

A priest of Lolth and senior officer of Bregan D'aerthe. Rai-guy distrusts Jarlaxle's attachment to a surface artifact and weighs loyalty to the mercenary company against obedience to a leader whose judgment no longer appears reliable.

Kimmuriel Oblodra (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

Bregan D'aerthe's gifted psionicist, able to reach and shield minds by methods that bypass ordinary magical defenses. Kimmuriel studies Crenshinibon's hold on Jarlaxle and becomes essential to any attempt to oppose the relic without alerting it too soon.

Yharaskrik (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 15

A mind flayer drawn into Crenshinibon's expanding designs. Yharaskrik possesses formidable mental powers but learns that proximity to the shard turns even a would-be manipulator into another expendable servant.

Hephaestus (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 20

An ancient red dragon whose fire is one of the few forces powerful enough to test the Crystal Shard's defenses. Hephaestus has no interest in Entreri's or Jarlaxle's motives and treats intruders, artifacts and rival powers as potential additions to his hoard or targets for his breath.
