SpecOps
The second Expeditionary Force novel sends the stolen Thuranin star carrier Flying Dutchman back out on an independent mission, now crewed by a new multinational Special Operations contingent under Colonel Joe Bishop alongside the surviving members of the original crew. Their goal is to find an Elder communications device that might let the ship's alien AI, Skippy, contact his own kind, but early searches of abandoned alien sites turn up nothing useful while straining trust between the untested newcomers and Bishop's veterans. When a routine reconnaissance leaves part of the landing party stranded on a moon just as a Kristang battle fleet arrives for training exercises, Bishop must find a way to rescue his people without exposing the ship or revealing humanity's presence to a species that would consider it a target.
