A United Nations Marine colonel, an Earther career officer with a reputation for competence and for getting difficult assignments finished. He is proud of his service and believes in the institution he serves, and he was the officer ordered to retake a Belt station seized by its own workers. The Belt knows him as the Butcher of Anderson Station; in the present-day frame of the story he is being held to account for it.
