The Orange who was hidden inside Thurmond for six years, who joined and then outlasted the Children's League, and who was at the centre of the operation that finally opened the camps. In the years since, she has become one of the best known of the Psi, which is not the same thing as being trusted.

The Blue who drove Zu, Ruby and Chubs across the country when they were all runaways, and who argued from the beginning that the children in the camps mattered more than any plan built around them.

The Green who escaped Caledonia with Liam, kept notes on everything, and always intended to become a doctor. With the camps closed he has been able to go after that in the ordinary way.

The small Yellow girl who once wore rubber gloves and would not speak, now sixteen and the public voice of the Psi. She works for the interim administration as its youth spokesperson, travelling with the official delegation, giving interviews and speeches, and standing in front of audiences who are not always friendly. She has her voice back and uses it carefully, aware that everything she says is taken as what all Psi think, and she has grown tired of being handled.

The interim president, formerly a senator who led the Federal Coalition against the previous administration. She closed the camps and made the Psi a matter of official policy, and she keeps Zu close as the human face of that policy.

A Blue who came up through the Children's League and fought her way through everything that followed. She is as blunt as she ever was, and she is part of the security around Zu.

A Psi girl Zu falls in with on the road: quick, funny, resourceful, and very good at not answering questions about where she has been or what she is looking for.

A guarded, watchful Psi boy travelling with Priyanka. He says little, notices everything, and clearly does not think a girl from the president's office is safe company.
