The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook characters
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Carl (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The crawl's most notorious troublemaker enters the fourth floor with a growing arsenal of crafted explosives and a reputation for breaking the game's intended scripts. On this floor his defining tool arrives: a strange, ever-growing book of sabotage written by generations of past crawlers, which turns his private war against the dungeon's operators into something with a history and a future. He remains barefoot, pantsless, and calmly furious.
Princess Donut (Protagonist)
Also known as Donut
Appears from the start
Carl's talking Persian cat and party leader, who opens the floor by taking the Football Hooligan class while keeping her earlier class skills. Her charisma, spell list, and instinct for publicity keep growing, as does her habit of collecting followers, sponsors, and grudges. Her bond with Carl and her pet dinosaur Mongo remains the party's emotional core.
Mordecai (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Donut's bound manager and the party's walking encyclopedia. Midway through the floor a prize-machine mishap locks him out of the party's safe rooms for a week at the worst possible time, an absence that forces Carl, Donut, and Katia to navigate the floor's deadliest turns on their own judgment.
Mongo (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Donut's pet dinosaur reaches his full adult size on this floor, gaining a saddle and graduating from beloved hazard to genuine war mount. He remains single-mindedly devoted to Donut.
Katia (Supporting)
Also known as Katia Grim
Appears from the start
The party's doppelganger, now finding her feet. On this floor she experiments relentlessly with her shapeshifting, learns to turn her malleable mass into armor, plows, and battering rams, and rises to become one of the highest-leveled crawlers alive, while quietly carrying the trauma of the friends she left behind in Hekla's camp.
Bautista (Supporting)
Also known as Daniel Bautista
First appears in chapter 6
The swashbuckler ally from the third floor, now leading his own group through the subway maze on a separate route. His party's long, desperate push toward a terminus station, coordinated with Carl by chat message, becomes one of the floor's parallel survival stories and a target of the party's rescue plans.
Elle McGibbons (Supporting)
Also known as Elle
First appears in chapter 8
The elderly frost-slinging crawler from the Meadow Lark group, reunited with Carl and Donut in the Desperado Club and traveling with Imani. Her irreverence has not dimmed, and her team's discoveries about the floor's mechanics repeatedly save other crawlers' lives.
Imani (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 8
The Meadow Lark caregiver, now a seasoned crawler leading a team with Elle. Steady and selfless, she becomes a hub of the floor-wide information network and rescue effort as the subway system turns lethal.
Hekla (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 21
The Icelandic leader of an all-women crawler team known as the Daughters, famous from the broadcasts since the first floor. She arrives asking Carl's help to rescue a thousand stranded crawlers, but her party's internal cruelties and her designs on recruiting Donut make her a deeply ambiguous ally.
Eva (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 23
Hekla's lieutenant among the Daughters, a bully who rules the team's weaker members through fear. Her taunting of Katia during the rescue mission detonates the simmering conflict between Carl's party and the Daughters, with lethal consequences.
