Rand al'Thor (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The Dragon Reborn, the champion who must face the Dark One at the Last Battle. Master of the now-cleansed male One Power, he has lost his left hand to a Forsaken's ambush and grown hard and grim after years of war and betrayal. Racing to unite the nations and the Seanchan before the end, and increasingly certain he must feel nothing to do what is required, he is walking a knife's edge between resolve and ruin.
Egwene al'Vere (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The rebels' young Amyrlin Seat, held prisoner inside the White Tower and treated as a novice, yet unbroken and undaunted. Refusing to abandon her claim, she wages a patient war from within, enduring punishment while winning the sisters to her cause and working to topple the usurping Amyrlin, Elaida, and heal the Tower's division.
Mat Cauthon (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A ta'veren gambler and battle-luck commander from the Two Rivers, carrying the memories of dead generals and a medallion that turns aside the One Power. Now wed by Seanchan custom to Tuon, who has left him to claim her throne, he leads his soldiers cross-country, dogged by an inhuman assassin and drawn toward errands that only he can run.
Perrin Aybara (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A blacksmith, wolfbrother, and reluctant lord from the Two Rivers who can speak with wolves. Reunited with his rescued wife, Faile, and leading a growing following, he wrestles with what kind of leader he must become and with the pull of the wolves he still fears will claim him.
Nynaeve al'Meara (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The former Wisdom of Emond's Field, an Aes Sedai and gifted Healer, wife to Lan. Fierce, stubborn, and loyal, she has become one of Rand's closest and most trusted advisers, among the few who will stand against both his enemies and his darker impulses.
Min Farshaw (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A practical young woman who reads the future in the auras she alone can see. One of the three women who love Rand, she stays constantly at his side as adviser and anchor, increasingly frightened by the coldness hardening within him.
Cadsuane Melaidhrin (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A legendary and imperious Aes Sedai who has appointed herself the Dragon Reborn's teacher and minder. Certain of her own judgement and skilled with men who can channel, she struggles to reach a Rand growing ever colder and more dangerous, convinced there is a lesson he must learn before the Last Battle.
Aviendha (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A fierce Aiel woman and Wise One apprentice, once a warrior, proud and honest to a fault. One of the three women tied to Rand by love and prophecy, she continues her hard training toward the authority and responsibility of a full Wise One.
Gawyn Trakand (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Elayne's brother and Galad's half-brother, a gifted young swordsman and former leader of a band of Tower-trained soldiers. Torn between loyalties in the Aes Sedai's civil war, he is driven above all by his love for Egwene and his fear for her safety.
Elayne Trakand (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The newly crowned Queen of Andor and an Aes Sedai, one of the women bound to Rand. Proud and politically able, she works to consolidate her rule over Caemlyn and Andor and to bind the realm together as the Last Battle nears.
