The most beloved and adventurous boy in Tom's group of friends. He unexpectedly misses their Halloween gathering, and the others soon learn that illness has placed him in danger.

The tall, unsettling inhabitant of the house beside the immense Halloween Tree. He seems to command its many carved pumpkins, knows more than he explains about Halloween, and claims knowledge of the missing Pipkin.

One of Tom and Pipkin's companions on Halloween night. He arrives wrapped as a mummy, one of the traditional figures represented among the boys' costumes.
